Designed for digital artists, video editors, photographers, gamers, system builders, and more, the 8TB WD_BLACK Performance SATA III 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive from WD is optimized for drive performance so you can spend more time experiencing the things you love most. When paired with an SSD for a dual-drive configuration, you’ll further benefit from the caching of your OS onto the SSD for increased performance.
This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

I’ve bought 4 of these drives recently as I am obsessive about keeping my system backed up. They just work great. What more can I say!

I’ve tried (2) of these, as a pair (one for backup) after not being able to get my regular HGST versions, and I’m happy with the quality so far after 3 months of hard use. Will continue getting these, two more on the way now.

I bought this to backup my new computer. Im using it in a dock. Ive only wriiten to it once. The drive is exceptionallly quiet in the open dock. Ive alway had success with WD w/o any drive failures in the past.

This retail kit contains the exact same drive as the bare drive kit. Surprisingly, it is less expensive too. Win-win!

Have had no trouble with my other Caviar Black Hard Drives so was happy to give these 4TB drives a spin as well.

I purchased this drive to replace a 6-year-old Seagate Barracuda drive that was still running great but is now too small. I switched to WD this time on the basis of both price and reports that showed WD offering better long-term reliability these days. (My own experience with external drives agrees with those reports.) However….I hate this new drive. The noise level is awful!! Other reviewers complained that this drive was noisy, but I took a chance. I don’t mind clicks and clunks when I access files — that’s the drive doing it’s job. However, this drive has two problems: It clicks loudly every 5 seconds, even when idle; and worse yet, it makes a loud whirring/rubbing sound the entire time it’s spinning. My two Seagate drives in this system were completely inaudible over the system fans, but this new drive drowns out everything around it by a large margin. Worse yet, there are high-frequency components to the whirring that grate on my nerves, but which the engineers at WD apparently can’t even hear (or they would never have released this product). I was planning to upgrade my other Seagate Barracuda soon, too, given that it is also 6 years old. Needless to say, I’ll be replacing that one with a Seagate rather than another WD. My biggest regret with this new drive is that the 5-year warranty means I can’t justify replacing it anytime soon.

Can only go by what I’ve read so far as I have not seen the actual performance and reliability over time. I am optimistic and will give it a 5 star rating based on my experience with the other drives I own ( blue, various mybooks …)

I purchased the drive I was running out of space for my photos on my 1 TB Seagate Barracuda. I wanted a fast and quiet drive to support photo editing. It is both.

3 minute install after you dig out your computer and open it to reveal your internal drives. Yeah, it is that easy to install. But wait: I am replacing a failed WD 4T internal SATA drive before its warranty period expired. My MAC Pro warnings provided me with enough time to transfer all of my files from the failing drive to an external drive before any data was lost. This is the only WD drive to fail me in 35 years.

My 2TB Seagate was constantly chugging along around 100% active time (as reported by Windows Task Manager Performance) so I cloned the OS and files to this 2TB WD Black drive. This drive chugs along at about 10% active time. This is not to says that Seagate don’t make great drives but I’m happier with this WD drive even though I can hear it.

It’s louder than the 1TB HGST it replaces but works well. No drive errors were reported once I got it up an running. Installation was quick. It came with mounting screws, but no SATA cable. The included True Image software made a painless duplicate of the original drive. Windows 8.1 reports 3.63TB of total space after formatting.

Replaced the internal HDD in a 2009 iMac. Working without any problems. Worth every cent. More than enough storage for efficient operation.

This HD was purchased to replace another unit that my software said was going bad. It will be mostly used to store and work with photos and video. The unit was very easy to install and operate. So far, there have been no problems.

Nice drive, however it does make a little clicking noise. Nothing that is distracting, but the computer that I installed the drive into had an existing SSD drive that didn’t make any noise at all. Happy with this purchase.

Bought for backup. Using internally on a eSATA network. Gets about 120 mbs to 156 mbs transfer of data between SSDs that are running between 2.5 gbs and 490 mbs max.

Needed a 1TB hard drive for an older computer I was refurbishing and didn’t have the space to safely mount a SSD. The hard drive arrived in excellent condition and has been working flawlessly ever since.

A reliable manufacturer (WD) with a great 5-year warranty purchased through a great retailer (B&H) is the way to go. It was great right out of the box, and I dont have to worry if it fails any time soon.
