Designed for digital artists, video editors, photographers, gamers, system builders, and more, the 8TB WD_BLACK Performance SATA III 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive from WD is optimized for drive performance so you can spend more time experiencing the things you love most. When paired with an SSD for a dual-drive configuration, you’ll further benefit from the caching of your OS onto the SSD for increased performance.
This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

This works as it should. Great performance as you would expect from a 7200 RPM drive. I could be a little quieter but that isn’t a problem in my opinion.

I have this drive running in my surveillance DVR now for about 15 months and it really is the quality I would expect from Western Digital. Today I exchanged this drive for a 3TB purple drive (WD of course), just to maximize the capacity of my DVR. I have never really noticed it but this drive creates a lot of heat when used 24/7 . I know this drive was never meant to be in a DVR but considering the quality of the WD drives, I tried it for about 15 months. That in fact the drive went through this long time running 24/7, confirms my trust in WD drives once more. Out of 35 drives I bought over the years I had only two that failed (fortunately within warranty). Even my oldest drive from 2002 is still up and running. I never was that lucky with drives from other manufacturers.

Best deal in the world on a reliable drive. Wish I had bought two at that price! Is it still possible to buy another at the discounted price?

I give B & H the five stars for their price, shipping and tracking information. My profession is computers. I purchased this particular Hard Drive as a replacement for one that failed. As of this writing, it is working great and give it a three stars. Out of all of the HD from Wester Digital, I suggest the Black Series for my particular application as a replacement in an iMac. We are down to only a few HD manufacturers, and at this moment, WD is one of the most reliable.

Bought the drive, came in looking well cared for (love the 3day free shipping) and works just like any other hard drive

Installed easy no problems Will use it as a storage drive and start my computer with a m.2 card. Saving space on the m.2 but at the same time the black wd is no slouch on speed.

WD Black is the best drive around. Worked flawlessly and I know it’s stable for years.

I buy these and use these often at home and at work. In my experience these fail far less often than Seagate and the price is reasonable.

Some complain of nose. My computer case is open and very close (3 feet, 1 meter from my ear) and I find no problem with noise. My location is very quite.

Had many of these over the years and never disappointed. Prefer them over the cloud because I won this and once you store your info in a cloud they can change the pricing on you and you’re at their mercy. Great for video storage!

This drive has been performing very well so far. It is a replacement of the original 320GB Seagate on a 2008 Mac Pro. The reason for the purchase was for the much needed space, and for video and photo editing. This hard drive is perfect for this. It is inexpensive. The computer is now operating much more smoothly; it is incredibly quieter; and boot up is a lot faster! The reviews on this drive helped with making the purchase.

I have been using Western Digital hard drives for decades. I only had problems with 2 of the dozens I have bought, both of which were 20 years ago. This drive has great capacity and decent speed.

Still needed high capacity Hard Drive, but did not want slow drive. This offered both, and after install it delivered.

Been using WD Black drives over the years from 1g to 10gb now (skipped the 8gb drive). Getting ~125mb/s sustained transfer while copying (via external USB3) ~6gb of game files from my old drive WD Black. Instead of using explorer to copy I used the FastCopy (https://fastcopy.jp/) utility which performed better than the default Microsoft Explorer copy.

I was using the Hitachi version of these forever (like 20 of them) for audio and video intensive work. That drive was recommended by the guys at Graid, because they used them in their externals. I heard WD bought the Hitachi division a couple of years back, when my go to’s were now discontinued. I had MAJOR bad luck with WD drives in the past. I tested out two of these last year (one for backup, I buy them in pairs for this reason). Working perfectly. Two more, perfect, two more, perfect. (6 total now). Still got my fingers crossed that at the two year mark, the first two don’t fail, on the same day, like a couple of older WD drives in the past (15 years ago). Installed those original WDs in two different PCs on the same day (I uses two for beta testing software product) They BOTH failed on the same day exactly two years later. OMG. I’ve had many other WD drives that didn’t last as long as my other brands, so I stayed away from WD, until last year. So I was very reluctant to use WD. But hey, I gave it another shot, thinking that the Hitachi buy gave them better tech. FIngers crossed. 🙂 But pretty confident that these will last as my Hitachi versions, which are still all running strong after 8+ years…

Cannot beat WD black drives.

Really frustrated that a reputable company would put out a product that falls so far short. Now I have to do a bunch of paperwork and running around to get a replacement.
