This 10TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

I replaced a failed green WD 2TB drive with this black WD 4TB. It’s fast and quiet. Hopefully it will last longer than the green drive. It took 12 full days to recover 1.5TB, (43049 photo files) from Carbonite online backup service, at their governed snails pace download speed.

This drive has been performing very well so far. It is a replacement of the original 320GB Seagate on a 2008 Mac Pro. The reason for the purchase was for the much needed space, and for video and photo editing. This hard drive is perfect for this. It is inexpensive. I have been using WD Black desktop drives across two desktops for data storage for several years. I currently have 8 in use. In additon to great performace they are backed by a 5-year warranty, which is the best in this class of drives. All drives, regardless of brand, may (and likely will) fail at some point in time. WD’s no-nonense system for replacement makes this drive a great choice. You will pay more than you will for some of their other varieties, but in terms of overall performance, you do get what you pay for. I am not a fan of so-called green drives, which go to sleep when not in use. This can be an issue in situations of heavy use, where instant acess is required at all times.

The HTPC I am running had (2) 1.5TB WD Green drives that had a been re-used on a couple computer builds. The age of the drives may result in data loss so replacing the drives was a smart move. The 1.5 TB drives have moved to data back-up. A single drive to replace (2) drives is a great advantage.
