Designed for digital artists, video editors, photographers, gamers, system builders, and more, the 10TB WD_BLACK Performance SATA III 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive from WD is optimized for drive performance so you can spend more time experiencing the things you love most. When paired with an SSD for a dual-drive configuration, you’ll further benefit from the caching of your OS onto the SSD for increased performance.
This 10TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

I converted to WD HDD’s about a year ago. I had been using another brand for years but, the reliability just was not what it used to be. WD HDD’s have been running perfectly in my machine, no issues to date. Fast Free Shipping from B&H is always appreciated!

Best deal in the world on a reliable drive. Wish I had bought two at that price! Is it still possible to buy another at the discounted price?

I own this hard drive and would like to give my two cents about this drive. For a non-SSD drive, this is remarkably fast. The boot time on a clean Windows 7/10 install is about 14 seconds form the time the motherboard logo disappears. My SSD is about 11 seconds. The standard drive that came in the computers took about 22 seconds. While this was my experience with my hardware, you can expect similar differences but not necessarily similar times. I hope the previous sentence was written clearly enough such that the operative word differences, will logically convey my point on performance. For comparison, the stock drive that came in the XPS 8500 and 8700 systems gave me a transfer of about 115 MB/s while this drive gave me about 185 MB/s for randomly sized files and up to 220 MB/s for large GB files. Don’t confuse this with mbps. I would highly recommend this for a budget-wise alternative to similar sized SSD drives.

Replaced a failed drive on an older computer running Windows 7. It’s quiet and working flawlessly. I’m very pleased with this unit so far. (It’s only been about a month at this point.)

Had it up and running within 5 minutes. Transferred 7TB of data to the drive and its working beautifully.

Its a hard drive, so its a little difficult to evaluate over the course of a few days. I used this to replace a failing drive in my RAID array on my main desktop computer. The drive after installation spun up, was immediately recognized, and went into service rebuilding my degraded arrray. No hiccups as far as I can tell. I did not run a SMART test first, so can’t comment from that perspective. One note, I bought the retail box version of this drive because the OEM version was not in stock and, ironically, the retail box version was slightly cheaper anyway. Since I don’t usually buy boxed versions, I was expecting more than I got. Apart from the pretty retail box, you get some pretty small mounting screws which did not seem long enough for most mounting situations, the paper guarantee, and some cryptic paper instructions. Surprisingly (too me) no connection cables were included. There ought to be a law! I didn’t mark WD down for this because my guess is that this is a universal practice by most if not all manufacturers. But remember to pick up a power cable and a SATA connection cable if you don’t have one already.

I highly recommend the WD black series drives. I own three that have been periodically buying over the years as I need space and none have had any issues yet. This drive is great for multimedia storage and is reliable enough to edit on. It helps that they come with a 5 year warranty from WD. Statistically these have a much lower fail rate than other brands and series of drives, worth the extra cost for the longevity.

I’ve tried (2) of these, as a pair (one for backup) after not being able to get my regular HGST versions, and I’m happy with the quality so far after 3 months of hard use. Will continue getting these, two more on the way now.

Bought this because B&H had an excellent deal on them, and I own and have owned other WD Black drives.

Very Easy Installation. I say this coming from no technical experience whatsoever. I am a musician! But I took a chance on my 7 year old iMac and did a hard drive upgrade. The installation was the easiest part. It runs really quietly and much quicker than the old drive.
