Store and take your important information with you while on-the-go using the 2TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD. With a capacity of 2TB, it can be used for additional storage or for backing up your videos, photos, music, documents, and other files. The Elements drive connects to your computer with a USB 3.0 port at speeds up to 5 Gb/s, is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 at speeds up to 480 Mb/s, and is formatted as NTFS so Windows 10, 8.1, and 7 systems will recognize it right out of the box. For Mac users, the drive can be formatted to work with Mac OS.
The Elements drive quickly backs up and retrieves files by utilizing USB 3.0 technology and draws power from a USB bus-powered port on your device, meaning that it requires no other additional external power source. The WD Elements drive is protected by a limited 2-year worldwide warranty and a micro-USB to USB Type-A cable is included.

I have several Elements drives for backing up my Macs. Great compatibility with MacOS filesystems and none have failed me yet.

The case is somewhat cheap and flimsy. Booting it was not as automatic as other brands. However, the price was good — so in essence, one gets what one pays for it.

Smaller than I expected – very portable.

I originally bought a different WD model, but it contained the WD Smartware software, which makes it harder to use. I returned that one and ordered this one instead. It’s really plug and play.

Need help on this one… Plugged in the drive today after normal usage for the past 2 months. Was being a little slow so I ejected it to plug it back in, and it never showed back up. The light still comes on, I hear the fan going, but the drive doesn’t show up anywhere on my Mac. Disk Utility, Finder, etc… Anyone experience this same issue? Any fix? I have some important edits on here…

And reformatting it for my Mac was cake. I remember in the Stone Age of computing my boss got me an IBM PC-AT with a 40MB hard drive (the base unit had only 20MB — yes, MEGAbytes), telling me, That’s all the disk space you’ll ever need. I must be very old.

This hard drive is very light in weight and easy to carry anywhere. Easy to use and best for personal use. Only thing is that it is not exactly 640GB but 596GB. But thats fine…
