Store and take your important information with you while on-the-go using the 2TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD. With a capacity of 2TB, it can be used for additional storage or for backing up your videos, photos, music, documents, and other files. The Elements drive connects to your computer with a USB 3.0 port at speeds up to 5 Gb/s, is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 at speeds up to 480 Mb/s, and is formatted as NTFS so Windows 10, 8.1, and 7 systems will recognize it right out of the box. For Mac users, the drive can be formatted to work with Mac OS.
The Elements drive quickly backs up and retrieves files by utilizing USB 3.0 technology and draws power from a USB bus-powered port on your device, meaning that it requires no other additional external power source. The WD Elements drive is protected by a limited 2-year worldwide warranty and a micro-USB to USB Type-A cable is included.

I have a couple of backup drive that fail from time to time, so am replacing them. This is big enough and fast enough for a regular Time Machine backup. Keep multiple copies. I’ve had an internal and external disk (not SSD) fail at the same time – luckily had another current backup. I have had good service from WD devices.

I have about 26 of these. Every project gets 2. All other brands have seen corruption and failure, but never WD. Just make sure to buy it with a hard case and let it stay in the case. Best way to take care of them. And format to EXFAT so it works on both mac and windows without the 4gb limit.

USB Cable is aboout 15 inches. I think that is long enough. I saw some people complain about it being short. I also have a Toshiba drive that is shorter. Light is no problem, just turn it if it bothers you. NFTS format with no garbage software. I recommend it.

Worked great for a few months then started making a funny noise then died. Learned my lesson and just bought another Lacie Rugged drive.

I believe I read a lot about the Elements before buying. I wanted, and thought I was buying, an external back-up drive but it turns out it’s just a big thumb drive. It’s great if that’s what you’re looking for, but I wasn’t, so I had to buy another external back-up drive and it does what I wanted. Disappointed that the info. on the web wasn’t more clear about what Elements is.

Product seems to work fine. Wasted a lot of time trying to find instructions for setting up to automatically back up my computer hard drive. After making a phone call I found out there is no software to set up a back up, despite what the WD website said. ANY information included, as opposed to none, would have been most appreciated.
