Store and take your important information with you while on-the-go using the 2TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD. With a capacity of 2TB, it can be used for additional storage or for backing up your videos, photos, music, documents, and other files. The Elements drive connects to your computer with a USB 3.0 port at speeds up to 5 Gb/s, is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 at speeds up to 480 Mb/s, and is formatted as NTFS so Windows 10, 8.1, and 7 systems will recognize it right out of the box. For Mac users, the drive can be formatted to work with Mac OS.
The Elements drive quickly backs up and retrieves files by utilizing USB 3.0 technology and draws power from a USB bus-powered port on your device, meaning that it requires no other additional external power source. The WD Elements drive is protected by a limited 2-year worldwide warranty and a micro-USB to USB Type-A cable is included.

This product replaced an older WD 2TB USB USB 2.0 external drive. I had no problems with the older drive except that it was a bit slow considering that I now have a computer with USB 3.0 capability. The size of the older drive was never an issue for me but I’m guessing that this new drive is less than a 1/4 the size of the old one. The best thing about it is that it does not require a separate power source.

If you don’t need the speed of an SSD, this works well – fast enough and small enough, and much more capacity at the price than an SSD. Works great as a backup drive.

I have had this HD for 4 months and it’s easily the worst I’ve ever had. Twice now, it has refused to let me write any new data without wiping all of the existing files and reformatting the entire drive. Highly recommend looking elsewhere for a better HD.

I got the 500GB western digital external drive for a little over $. I can’t believe how far extra memory has come. To get such a hefty amount of Gigs for so cheap is amazing. It’s pretty fast for me. The only downside I see is the fact that it connects to your computer through FireWire. I have no complaints. If you’re working with huge InDesign files or final cut movie clips you probably already know this isn’t for you. But, for anyone else, it’s a great buy.

Depending on the format, it is recognized in both the MAC and the window. I am using it every day, but it is stable.
