Store and take your important information with you while on-the-go using the 2TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD. With a capacity of 2TB, it can be used for additional storage or for backing up your videos, photos, music, documents, and other files. The Elements drive connects to your computer with a USB 3.0 port at speeds up to 5 Gb/s, is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 at speeds up to 480 Mb/s, and is formatted as NTFS so Windows 10, 8.1, and 7 systems will recognize it right out of the box. For Mac users, the drive can be formatted to work with Mac OS.
The Elements drive quickly backs up and retrieves files by utilizing USB 3.0 technology and draws power from a USB bus-powered port on your device, meaning that it requires no other additional external power source. The WD Elements drive is protected by a limited 2-year worldwide warranty and a micro-USB to USB Type-A cable is included.

I bought two of these to use for backing up my photographs. Easy to set up and use.

Well designed and attractive. Quite fast. It runs on USB power only and doesn’t need a cord for a wall connection. I store photos on mine and it is much quicker than what I was using before. I plan on buying another soon.

I’ve been confused by trying to use this as a back up drive to my WIN 10 computer. Even customer support can’t get me the right info/instructions….I’m still trying to figure out a next step!

Purchased mid-2019 and still going along fine. However, light use as it is only connected to comp once per month to back up photos.

I use it primarily for photo backups. Plenty of space, quite, portable and no additional power supply. I love it.

I bought this hard drive to back up my data so I could reinstall my operating system. I had no trouble setting it up and using it. The transfer rate, while not blazing fast, is good enough for me. The only indication that it is powered up is the little light on the front. It is very quiet. The mini USB port is a great feature and allows any cord to be used.

I have to return it because it doesn’t work. I wish these were tested before being sold.

I ordered this because of the price and capacity, and when it arrived I got two pleasant surprises. The first is that it’s based on 2.5 drive technology, not 3.5, so it’s much smaller than I expected – not that much larger than a pack of cigarettes. The second surprise was that it’s USB-powered – no unwieldy wall wart to loose. It’s a mechanical drive (not SSD) so it’s not going to be a speed demon, but it’s perfect for my application – offline storage.

Plenty of storage, very compact size (barely bigger than a wallet), powered by USB, and extremely easy to use right out of the box. No bells and whistles, just simple and useful.

So far so good we will see 6 months to a year. If it’s not clanking it is not tanking!

I have heard too many stories of people getting locked out of their cloud accounts for various reasons, so I use these for backing up images and data instead. The only issue was the cable that came with it was somewhat deffective in that it would not register on my wife’s laptop computer, but did with mine, Swapping the cord solved the issue. I looked at the contacts on the jacks and some were molded slightly out of position. Otherwise, backing up was as simple as Drag and Drop.

It’s small and runs from a USB port. It holds a lot and with the reputation of Western Digital behind it I trust it to work. The three I have, bought years apart, have been reliable and just work. I use them on Windows and Linux machines. A wonderful man once told me, ‘The great thing about a well oiled machine is that you never notice it.’ Sad but true that the best built devices are often the most overlooked.
