Store and take your important information with you while on-the-go using the 2TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD. With a capacity of 2TB, it can be used for additional storage or for backing up your videos, photos, music, documents, and other files. The Elements drive connects to your computer with a USB 3.0 port at speeds up to 5 Gb/s, is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 at speeds up to 480 Mb/s, and is formatted as NTFS so Windows 10, 8.1, and 7 systems will recognize it right out of the box. For Mac users, the drive can be formatted to work with Mac OS.
The Elements drive quickly backs up and retrieves files by utilizing USB 3.0 technology and draws power from a USB bus-powered port on your device, meaning that it requires no other additional external power source. The WD Elements drive is protected by a limited 2-year worldwide warranty and a micro-USB to USB Type-A cable is included.

This is the 3rd WD Hard Drive I’ve purchased in the past 6 years and they’re still making great drives. I bought this drive because my Macbook Pro failed to turn on and I didn’t have a backup for it. So the second it was fixed, I bought this specifically for TimeMachine backups. It arrived quickly as everything does from B&H and it’s been a solid everyday drive for me. I carry it to and from work everyday and leave it constantly plugged. It’s a lot slower than an SSD, but it’s about a 6th of the price for this much storage. It’s not ideal for working/editing off of, but it’s perfect for backups and archiving! People talk about the dangers of using hard drives all the time, but I’ve had a drive just like this since 2014 and it’s traveled all over with me and definitely not treated the best and it’s still up and running 6 years later. WD is brand that can be trusted!

I have bought a few of these that work well until they fail. I just had a 2 year old and a 3 year old unit fail on the same day. They were the 1st and 2nd back up of the same information. It can happen, so back up 3+ times at least. Replacement is 3 years, but register online, or WD may take the guarantee date from production date, not when B&H sells it to you. Also, in the US support is passable. In Spain forget it.

What can I say about a portable hard drive….other than it works. As expected. And I think it’s pretty amazing that engineers can cram 1TB of space into a little device that fits in the palm of your hand and runs off the minuscule current of a USB drive. Oh, I gave it a 4 stars review because nothing is perfect.

This hard drive came formatted for Windows, so just plug it in and you’re ready to go. Seems to read and write the same speed as other USB 3.0 drives from another manufacturer. Makes slight clicking noises while working, hope that’s normal. Only question is reliability going forward–no issues so far.
