This is a almost perfect way to maintain your photo. Videos and miscellaneous files you want to access from anywhere yhat has internet. Pay for it once and its yours forever unlike Google photos. However be very aware the size you order is only 1/2 that size if you are wanting a backup of your data for security. For example I ordered 8 TB and they send 2, 4 TB Hard drives as the 8 TB. Technically it is 8TB. But I feel most people that order this wand the backup Raid security. To get 8TB of storage you will need to order 16 TB.

I have a small consulting business and I’m using the My Cloud EX2 Ultra to back-up four Mac computers, as well as share files. It was easy to set-up Time Machine and it has worked flawless over the past couple of weeks. The dashboard software keeps my rating from being 5 stars. I recommend the EX2 Ultra to any small business. I should note that I have not used the cloud-based remote access yet.

My drive has yet to arrive. My “My Cloud” device is very difficult to work with, and was meant to replace the MyBook Live which had always been a much better solution to my needs than the MyCloud. I am hoping when the My Cloud Expert Series EX2 Ultra gets here it works more like the My Book Live.

With very little direction I had it up and running within 10 minutes. Hardest part was picking the software to use for the movie server. I am glad I got it and only regret is I did not buy it sooner.

The product works as promised and the set up was great. But better still, B&H is always a delight to work with.

Easy to setup but missing an important step/info. Directions NEED to let buyers know that the default is such that only 1/2 the disk space will be visible. Yo then need to better explain the various setups on how the Ultra may be utilized. Product gets 5 stars, information not obvious 3 stars = 4 stars.

need more time to evaluate. So far though, simplicity could be a whole lot better. Uploads do not bypass previous loads. I end up with multiple copies. That sucks…, especially when loading a bunch of photos and the system stops. which means re-copying. I’ll attempt to go to youtube to see what can be done.

The thing was designed by amateurs, and documentation written by engineers (I’m an Electronic Engineer so I can say that). 1. No way to turn the thing off. You have to pull the plug! 2. USB ports are for adding external hard drives, not for connecting to your computer. 3. It works on some internal background processes that impede the user experience i.e. slow response and slow file transfers. 4. Documentation needs a good technical writer to go through it and make it understandable. It needs wiring diagrams and examples on how it can be configured. I just put in my RMA request.

Our new MyCloud EX2 Ultra backs up 2 Apple computers via Time Machine & LAN, 1 a recent iMac, the other a late 2013 MacBook Pro. We needed and received WD phone support in setting it up and again when it stopped backing up the MacBook Pro. Support was v good. All backups working as planned. We are pleased.

We are using it as a data repository for our organization.

I bought this unit to replace a Windows 2003 server that crashed. We were basically using the server just to store documents, so this unit is all we really needed. We are running in Raid 1(mirrored drives) mode for data redundancy. I chose unit based on capacity, features and the Western Digital reputation. So far, so good.

This drive and MyCloud OS 5 is much better than previous versions. The drive arrived preconfigured in mirror-mode RAID1 so I have the confidence that my data is protected from a single drive failure. It was easy to setup and has options that can help it grow with me. I have already tested the “Recycle Bin” option which will move items you deleted into a “Recycle Bin share” so you can recover files or delete them again, permanently. I was impressed that the security settings were all set to a higher state by default. (SMBv1 = off, NTLMv2 only).

You need to develop a feature for your next upgrade that hibernate the NAS and wake from hibernation local or remotely

My old NAS (different manufacturer) was shot and the price/features on this one seemed right, along with the warranty, the brand name, and the fact that had just purchased a WD Red drive! Setup was a tad confusing at first for my novice-to-intermediate network experience, but not more so than I would expect any NAS setup to be. It’s quiet and quick, and has a nice, top drop-in design for the drives that prevents improper lineup with pins. Software interface is better than I expected. Happy with this purchase and would recommend it, overall.

I am upgrading from a 2TB drive that was nearing capacity. This one will last me a long time. Cloud service works well too.
