This device is marketed as being able to synchronize with Dropbox. It doesn’t work most of the time. Check the WD support site, because there are nothing but complaints about it. Oh and don’t bother calling them, because they’ll tell you to contact Dropbox.

This unit was not too difficult to get set up. After updating to the firmware to OS5, it was easy to connect to the network and has a nice web user interface. The web access to the drive is also nice (one of the main reasons I chose this unit over other NAS options), although it still lacks a few features (for example, comparing to Dropbox this unit cannot be attached as a drive on computers not residing on the local network, instead the web interface must be used). Overall, excellent product and a good buy.

i have been purchasing these drives for the past 5 years! they are the best that you can get for the money! ultra reliable red drives inside. WD does a good job at warranty claims. I own about 10 or 15 wd drives and yes I had problems with some of them but wd support will take care of you. not at recovery but at replacing.

I am getting frustrated with this. I am not able to access the device through cloud since the day I bought. Called WD and created a ticket. Spent several hours with them on phone. Ticket got escalated multiple time but still no help.

Decent NAS, and best of the series. With more powerful processor and more memory, drive and web interface responds much more smoothly. Adding this to my infrastructure allows much better backing up with other my cloud drives.

I replaced this with a 8TB that went bad after only a year. Not very reassuring but this unit has a faster processor and more memory than the previous unit. Hopefully this will handle long term streaming better.

the experience was frustrating because not everyone is an egghead, software engineer or super hacker

Easy to use, seems to work well, wish I purchased more space

Easy to setup, with one exception. Creating groups prevents file permissions for existing files from working correctly. When you transfer files it creates ownership problems. So, set up permissions for personal accounts to avoid this problem. Also, ensure all the files you are transferring are not corrupted. We had one computer image file that prevented the file transfer from working. Once we deleted it, everything worked fine. Now that the file server is up and running, it’s an excellent solution for backing up files.

Fast and easy to setup for immediate use. Adding users and shares was straight forward. The iOS application is intuitive and easy to use.

My wife and I both work from home, and I wanted a network solution for maintaining backups of critical data on our laptops. The other features of this device are nice, but maintaining data backups was my main interest. I installed WDs SmartWare application which provides a simple interface for defining/scheduling backups (and recovery if/when needed). For our purposes the continuous incremental/differential backup works great. Over time we may use some of the other features. But for my needs this unit seems to be working really well.

I replaced a Mac Mini with two 4 TB drives with this bit of kit after I filled to the two drives. I was able to plug the two full drives in to the back of this NAS and add 16 TB included with this NAS in a JBOD configuration. Now I have a complete plex server in a small package and it allowed me to free up me Mac for other uses. The NAS serves plex flawlessly with its built in app. My media centre now has 8 TB of shows with another 16 TB of space to take me into the coming years of TV shows and Movies. A perfect solution for a complete media server even if you have a couple of USB drives already full of content.

I spent a great deal of time studying the ins and outs of NAS, there seems to be 100s of choices. This item seemed best for me, a good compromise of capacity and enclosure size that wouldn’t take up too much space. But the joy ended trying to make sense of the supplied docs description of connecting to Win10 machines. I found they weren’t even wrong; nothing seemed to work. I spent another big chunk of time digging thru the WD support site. Another disappointment, very hard to use. But finally, I did find one note that advised a completely different way to open it so I could ‘map the drive’ as windows refers to it. That worked. It was a frustrating afternoon.

Copying data from my old drive to new drive took 11 days. Some files could not be copied in the drag and drop process. You should have a better way to copy over files from old device to new device.

It has been five days and it is still “indexing” the data

Very good price and products I already bought it twice and the price is very affordable. it only takes time to make the delivery

I purchased an 8TB model on 29 December 2021, it arrived by 05 January 2022, drive 1 had already stopped working by 08 February 2022. I love the features of this device, and it was wonderful while it was working, but this is disheartening quality coming from a company that I used to associate with highly reliable products. Kudos for letting me back up my Mac wirelessly using Time Machine, but it’s hard to get much use out of it or feel like my data is secure when drives start failing just over a month in.

I guess I should have thought about the name a bit more. Don’t need a cloud drive or remote capabilities. Just an additional drive I can map to for image storage. Well I was finally able to map to it, even though there are numerous posts claiming you can’t. However each time I try to transfer files to it it crashes after a couple of minutes. Even worse it takes down my network when it does. I have to restart the switch as every device in the house looses connectivity. This one is going back.

Easy to setup from out of the box. Quiet operation. Beautiful design. Very easy to pop the HDDs into the enclosure. My Cloud OS setup and UX is very good. Overall a great product by WD. I would recommend this.

I use this to backup my pics, video, and music. So far it’s working well. My last WD NAS lasted almost 7 years before one of the disks failed. Hope this one will do as well.
