Preformatted NTFS for systems running Windows 10, 8.1, or 7, the 14TB Elements Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD provides users with up to 14TB of add-on storage for their photos, videos, music, documents, and other files. It features a 5 Gb/s micro-USB 3.0 interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, and is compatible with 480 Mb/s USB 2.0. It is powered using an 100-240 VAC power adapter, is formatted NTFS for Windows, and includes a USB cable.

I am moving from Windows world to Mac and needed a backup device for Time Machine on new MacBook Pro. I had shopped for awhile for HDD in 3-4 TB sizes and B&H had the best price for Western Digital, which is what my IT friends also use and recommend.Delivery was quick and easy, as promised.Only reason I gave 4 stars is that I couldn’t use it on both Windows and Mac (but that might be more an Apple issue…)

I use the drive for a Time Machine backup, and it’s been great. It’s quiet and has a small footprint. For a basic, 2TB backup drive, you can’t beat it for the price. It’s a little slow since it’s USB 2.0, but that doesn’t really matter for a backup drive. It quietly does it’s thing in the background.

Using a pair of these 4TB for my rapidly growing data from Sony mirrorless. There was a glitch when formatting with the Mac but a second try and it worked out, data is securely stored plus a safety. Saves space on my 1TB desktop. Chose this model in part because it has it’s own power which keeps it running cooler and in theory will hold up well. Have several WD all portable 1T, up to 5-6 years, and none have failed yet.

I have been using this external hard drive for a few weeks now and it has worked well. It is being used as a backup for my MacBook Pro and for some video storage. Only thing I found odd is that it doesn’t have a power switch. You just have to plug/un-plug to cycle the power.

The 4 TB elements external desktop hard drive by Western Digital was an excellent choice for me to back up my new 3 TB iMac 5K retina computer. Over the years, after using many different hard drive brands, I settled on western digital exclusively. I’ve never had a problem with any of their hard drives,which cannot be said for Seagate or some of the other hard drive manufacturers. And it was a great price as well.

It is formatted for pc so you don’t have to go through an elaborate process to format the drive. I use it for backup so it is on for a short time only. I don’t know how it would do if it were on 24/7.
