It features a 5 Gb/s micro-USB 3.0 interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, and is compatible with 480 Mb/s USB 2.0. It is powered using an 100-240 VAC power adapter, is formatted NTFS for Windows, and includes a USB cable.

I buy a new external drive every couple years to use for backing up my data. The size is a plus in this one, and I like the styling of the case. I only gave it four stars since I don’t know how long it will last. Absolutely partition it first; it’s a lot easier to organize your stuff!

Works perfectly! NO SETUP OR FORMATTING REQUIRED; JUST PLUG AND PLAY!!! Large capacity. I feel secure with this as backup. Runs on house power, not through computer, and I recommend using it with a substantial surge protector or UPS if planned to leave plugged in.

Plug and Play I take picture in raw each pic is about 20 mb, that burns up a lot of hard drive. The WD 3 TB Elements is perfect for picture storage. I did notice that when my computer goes to sleep the 3 TB goes to sleep.

I have 3 of these and the one thing that stands out to me is the noise. Actually, the lack of noise. I have had external drives that hum before and it drives me nuts. My home office is fairly quiet and so the hum of an external drive is very noticeable, but with these drives it’s noticeably absent. So far they are reliable and are my primary storage for video footage on an OS X system.

I’m a part-time video editor and needed a hard drive just for storage so I went for this product because it was a really great price and Western Digital has never let me down yet (I own 6 Western Digital HD of various sizes and shapes). I was worried that I would be taking a gamble on this one because it was so cheap. When I plugged it in I wondered why I paid extra for all my other harddrives with less memory. This is truly essential and when all you need is a place to store files this is all you need. I took this to the next step by editing files stored on the harddrive and it still worked fine (although I worry that doing that too much would wear it down quickly so I avoid it). Anyway, I’m happy with this and would buy it again. I use it for my Mac.

I bought these to extract the internal 3.5 drives for my NAS since they were less expensive this way than buying them bare. The bonus is now I have external cases for my smaller drives for free. There are youtube videos showing how to open the cases.
