I am an amatuer photographer. I use this to store all of my pictures on. It is fast and makes storing photos easy. I have a second drive that I use to back up the first drive. I feel protected about my photos.

Excellent cheap hard drive that does what it should. No complaints

I have the drive connected to a Netgear WNDR3700 wireless router so all my networked computers can have access to the same files. The drive is very quiet and doesn’t get hot. Setup was extremely easy. Just plug in the USB cable and the power brick. It automatically appeared in my network places. You get instant NAS (Network Attached Storaqe). During initial file transfer to the drive, it became painfully apparent that the USB interface was much slower than SATA. But if you’re not moving a gig at a time, it’s fast enough for most tasks. The auto powerdown feature is great. I can leave the power on all the time but the platter only spins when needed. There is no backup software included to get in the way, so it’s just perfect for my needs.

great for storage, good price.

This is a very good value for the money. The drive runs very quietly and is fast for it’s USB 2.0 interface. It would benefit from the drive activity light in the front and an on/off switch.

Can’t ever have enough of these guys, great price, great drive, and gives me a sense of insurance.

Easy to shuck without breaking clips. Great value for money when on sale, below $15/TB. Write-cache automatically enabled on Synology.

I use the hard drive with all my pictures, movies, music, and the ability to backup everything. It runs fast and have not had any problems with using it.

I needed storage and this fit the bill. Easy to use and well built. I have a 1T that’s several years old.

While the 2TB version of this drive was great, this 3TB version is noisier and has an aggravating spin-up delay. If you’re not constantly using the drive, it spins down to save energy (I’d guess). When you need it again, you get a spinning rainbow (on my iMac) for 7 seconds. Once the drive has spun-up, it does work well. You only notice the drive’s slower speed when transferring very large files. Unfortunately, the spin-up delay is sufficiently annoying for me, that I wish I hadn’t bought it. Bummer.

I own a video production company, I had over 500GB of .MP3’s on a 10 year old 640GB WD external HDD. Bought the 4TB WD external to move my music to. I run a Mac Pro desktop that this is hooked to via a USB3 card. Blazing fast no lag time from request to play. I did have to tell iTunes where to go to get the new 4TB music and left the music on the smaller HDD as a back up until the 10 year old says I quit!!

I have alot of large video files that need to be saved for long periods of time, this drive seems to work great for that.
