B&H has been an excellent seller to me. WD HDs have been steady as she goes product, both for years.

Though this is an “early” review in my opinion as an HD would need to be run for, I say, at least 6 mos before you can make an objective review, but so far this one has been good. I’ve attached it as an external device to my Synology 418+ formatted it as ext4 (whole disk) and started using it as a backup drive for the various components on the network. It performs well and I can see that it fully utilizes the 1Gb pipe on the network when I’m trying back things up to it so I know there aren’t performance bottlenecks caused by it. It also is energy/star efficient and will go to sleep after a period of inactivity and wakes up just fine accessed through the Synology NAS. Hopefully it lasts! 🙂

I have connected the Elements HD to my IMAC. Formating was no problem, instruction from Western Digital were right on. This is my 3rd external HD, WD units are far and away the easiest to connect and get running for us non-geeks. Would definitely buy another one, but really hope 2TB will take care of my needs. Only complaint is the 2.0 USB. Kinda slow recording video tapes and retrieving the tapes from the drive.

I imagine this is a good piece of equipment, however it came with NO instructions, no software and no tutorial. Their website has not been helpful so far. The only downloads are virus protection they want to sell you. I’m still trying to find an easier way to backup my files on this hard drive than one at a time. Wish it had auto update capability!

Great value for a 2 TB Hard Drive from WDFast …

Using it for more than a week now. Working as expected. No problems. Great for backups. Not quick, but for such price you can’t complaint. A lot of space and super price from bhphotovideo!

This is the third Western Digital external drive I’ve purchased over the past several years. The other two (MyBooks) have worked well enough on my MacBook Pro for backup and archival purposes, but have a tendency to drag the Mac to its knees at times, for reasons I haven’t determined. The Elements drive was purchased to back up an XP machine I use for stand alone apps, so the MO is different. I’ll just list the things I like about the Elements relative to the MyBook models. 1) no pesky flashing lights to deal with at 3AM. 2) a clean, functional design including a low center of gravity (it sits flat, not standing on end) so no worries about knocking it over and 3) quiet and cool running compared to the MyBook drives. In addition, the Elements was a great deal at $ for 2 TB. As I only connect this drive for backup and restore operations, it would be nice to have a power switch on the front, but it seems to be effectively powered off when ejected, so maybe that would be redundant. If I could rationalize the purchase of another of these, I’d buy one, but I can’t ;-(

Box wasn’t damaged or opened so I’m happy

I record quite a bit of UHD 360 video. This requires large amounts of storage capacity. I felt this was a great value for the money (about $20 per 1 tb.) How does the drive perform. No, problems so far and I would recommende to others. I would suggest that the discovery/utility software from the WD site to get things in order.

I use it mainly for backup and archive of photos and video. The drive is very quiet and runs cool. Even though it has the smart power function, but still prefer to have a power switch, so you can choose to manually turn it off if desired.

Unit works great, very quick transfer rate. No issues with connecting or data exchange.

I’m using this for back up and so far so good. Very good value.

I purchased this drive to consolidate photos and video that we had spread out across numerous smaller (i.e. – 320Gb) drives that are starting to age. I was beginning to worry that the older drives would fail so I wanted to move everything over to a new disk for safe keeping. Data transfer speed is adequate for copying images and working with them online. However, it is not speedy enough for online, realtime video editing.

I actually will not be putting the two units into service until 2021. They are backup devices. BUT, the service was fantastic. Delivery through FedEx was far better than through Amazon and more professional. Keep the team B&H and FedEx!

As with most, we wish for an SSD, however can only afford an HDD. I bought one expecting I was not going to be happy. I was pleasantly surprised and ended up buying a second one! The speed of these are surprisingly fast for an HDD. Would absolutely buy again.

So far it’s working just as expected.
