I have several WD Elements external hard drives and they work great! I bought the 12 TB because my files are getting larger all the time.

Few years ago I purchased few similar western digital hard drives for backup. So far none of them failed, so I’m pleased! This is my 3rd unit. I did had to hook this drive to PC/Windows based computer first to format it to Mac format. 5 stars from me.

This is a great product for me as a casual user who needs to back up material. I purchased this on sale, because I needed additional storage for my ever growing mp3 and picture collection. 2TB seemed like enough storage in addition to a portable 1TB that I already owned. The drive is super quiet and without the light on the back illuminating when the power is connected, you might almost think it wasn’t running. Very easy setup out of the box. I highly recommend this drive.

Do not use it very often. Primary use as a second back-up. Quiet. After 14 hours of continous use, the drive was cool to the touch. So far – no problems. It has a power (on/off) button.

A perfect plain vanilla hard drive. I found the directions on line to set up for a Mac and it’s just sitting there quietly waiting to be used. Now I just need to find the time to do a lot of transferring.

A good product at a great price– I use these for backing up photo/video projects– and have never had a problem.

I use these drives in my home theater system for video storage. These drives are quiet and dependable.

This does what it is supposed to do. I use it for archiving image files. It is not fast, but for me it doesn’t need to be. I take one star off because the finish on the casing is an incredible dust magnet – high static electricity quotient, and shows finger prints.
Hal Hammes (verified owner) –
For a more compact and bigger storage ability.

Pros: Clean, sleek, minimalistic look. I love it. Fast, quiet, not too hot. Absolutely great, no problems. Western Digital doesn’t disappoint. Cons: No on/off button.

Works great so far on my Mac as a Time Machine backup, but it’s pretty loud, especially compared to the iMac. I may look at trying to move/hide it somehow. Also, it’s pretty bulky–larger than the old Elements 3.5 drives.

Works will with MacBook Pro!

Connection drops out repeatedly… Causes driver malfunction..can’t save to drive..Not really dependable for sensitive apps..

I am using it with an imac. Plug it in and it starts backing up my computer with Time machine with the click of 1 button! Awesome, 3tb also gives me more room than my 2 tb hardrive in my computer so I can pull extrafiles over to the external with plenty of room. Thanks!

I use it as an off-line, off-site backup storage, it has proved to work great, it is not as fast as others (I leave it copying/syncing files at night while asleep, so I can take it off-site next morning) , but I believe it hits the right price/performance ratio for my use case. I really hope it lasts
