Great, reliable backup drive!

Plug and play on two different XP laptops, one of them a relic with USB 1.0. This drive had the best reviews of all the 2T drives I surveyed and B&H had the best deal at the time, …. Man am I happy. This is my first big drive and I will add another soon now that I know how great they are. Speed is decent even on the old laptop.

This is a huge 8TB drive and I am so happy to get it at such a good price. Would recommend!

I’ve only had this 3TB drive for about 3 weeks, but so far so good. I formatted the drive to get rid of the proprietary software and I use my own backup software (Acronis True Image).
Palma McCullough (verified owner) –
Performs flawlessly, all expectations met or exceeded.
Vivian Williamson (verified owner) –
Performing admirably so far, quick and easy to set up and use. No complaints here.
Dan Ward (verified owner) –
Huge volume. Great price. Write speed was an average of around 70 MB/s for 10TB written. That excellent for USB2!

I have only had it a few weeks but it seems to work great, no problems, and backs up really fast, Good size too, much smaller that comparable 2Tb external drives.

Exactly what I was hoping for! Opened the box, plugged it in and copied all my photos in minuets. Good product, good price and quick delivery. Yes I would recommend this drive. Thank you.

This drive is constantly falling asleep! If I take even a short break then as soon as I come back to my computer I have to wait at least 5 seconds for this drive to wake up. I’m on a Mac and it doesn’t even matter if what I’m doing requires this drive or not – my Mac has to wait for this drive to wake up before I can do anything on my computer. So imagine having to wait for 5+ seconds every single time you sat down on your computer. If you’re constantly getting up to do something else like I am it gets very annoying.

Easy to setup, and I would highly recommend this to a friend.

I bought this drive for use in a research project where I am transferring a high number (hundreds) of very large (up to 1GB) data files between various systems and processing them. The fact that the drive has a USB 3.0 interface was attractive for the added speed, and at the time I bought it (June, 2015), the drive was about the same price as buying an OEM drive of the same capacity (4GB). For the first few months, the drive worked great. Transfer speeds were what one would expect from USB 3.0, and the drive was portable and reliable. After a few months (as of October), the drive stopped being recognised by any system (multiple computers, various OSes) when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. It was still recognised when plugged into a USB 2.0 port, and in these cases it worked fine. My laptop, as it turns out, has only USB 3.0 ports, though its port replicator has only USB 2.0 ports. But the port replicator is big and bulky, so in order to use the drive away from home with my laptop, I got a cheap USB 2.0 hub. This solution works fine, albeit a bit slow, but I get random disconnects from the drive when I use it through the hub. These disconnects are probably the fault of the cheap hub, since the connection has been pretty stable through the port replicator. In general I’m reasonably satisfied with the product so far, but when USB 3.0 functionality only works for a few months, and then fails to the point that the device is unusable on USB 3.0 ports, I can’t give it a satisfactory rating.

Tengo una unidad de estas desde hace 3 aos y me ha funcionado a la perfeccion, es por ello que estoy comprando una nueva. 100% recomendada

With USB 3, I thought would be good for video, but it is not. the drive is much too slow so USB 3 is kind of wasted. Probably good to use for data only.

Have not used this drive long, but am very happy with it. Plugged it into my Win7 computer and was off and running. Speedy transfer rate. I normally swear by WD hard drives, hope this one is as dependable as the others I have. Great deal, too. Would purchase again in a heartbeat.

Very easy to order, it arrived here in Oregon in just 3 or 4 days. That was more quickly than I expected and was quite welcome as this volume is “Nikon Photo Files”. Simply plugged it in in place of the dead one and loaded everything from the backup drive (4 hours @ USB3 speed). Well done, and so far so good.

I already had a 4TB version, but needed more so when B&H offered this bigger drive, I jumped on it and am glad I did. – The drive looks good, simple clean design and not very big. Soft rubber feet are very much appreciated, plus the fact that drive is essentially noiseless. It takes some time to re-format for MacOS, but that’s a one time affair. It is a USB 3.0 ready device, which is great, but I did learn that this doesn’t necessarily make it as fast as I had come to believe it would (for whatever reason). I had thought it might be 10 times as fast as USB 2.0, but it seemed to me that it was about 4 times as fast. Drive arrived very nicely packaged and in impeccable shape… I’d enthusiastically recommend it to anyone needing extra storage…

Price was right and it serves as a good backup disc for video and photo files. I may buy a second one for a time machine back up on my Mac.

Im using this driver for a 2rd backup of video footage. Hope I never have to get it out of the bank vault again.
