I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. I dumped all my files on the drive w/Vista and made a system image of my C drive after installing windows 7 on the new drive. It worked great out of the box and the drive stays cool. The drive has no Encryption encase the drive is ripped-off, but I knew that when I bought the drive. WD GREAT PRODUCT!

Purchased to backup my Macbook Pro. Solid product. Plenty of space for a great price, works as expected.

It works as expected and it has large capacity. Sometimes transfer rate slows down but not too bad.

i bought this external storage drive to replace an IOMEGA 1.5tb drive that FAILED. this drive is easy to use, works fine with my mac, but the iomega drive also worked for a year and a few months before failing.i want something RELIABLE. … this WD drive has only 1yr guarantee. so i bought the seagate drive in addition to this one, but which drive is better? how can i tell? the seagate drive had me register it automatically, and it had more cling tapes to peel off, but how is a person to judge such a thing before it is too late?

so far, works as expected.

I’ve only had this drive for a few weeks but so far so good. Once it boots up it reads/writes pretty fast. My only, minor, critique is that boot up time is a bit slow, maybe around 20-30 seconds. But that’s not really a huge deal.

A great external drive.

This external has big Harddisk energy. I needed something larger than 6 TB and I found this bad boy for a decent price. Me like.

Easy to set up. Very fast drive.

The price was great per TB. WDs have trouble mounting on my macs at times but, hey – it’s cheap backup!

Received it very quickly and it works just fine. I have Windows 7 64 bit and am using this external HD for backup. My PC is a Dell, with a WD hard drive. Since I have never used an external HD larger than 2TB, I did not know that I had to reformat the HD before doing my first backup with a system image. After my first backup attempt and receiving an error code, I did some research and found a solution on the Microsoft community forum… It was posted by dave6670 on 3/25/13. I downloaded the WD Quick Formatter from the WD site and used the WD Quick Formatter to format this external hard drive. After completing these steps, it was all good….

Best price per terabyte with Western Digital’s reliability. It’s used to backup multimedia. I have it formatted to Mac OS and can only use the usb 2.0 connection on a 2008 macbook. My only complaint is how, unlike the MyBook line (I own 2), this hard drive does not connect through my ac-powered usb 3.0 hub. It is possible that there’s something wrong on my end, but I followed all the troubleshooting protocols to no avail. Even so, it’s a small inconvenience for the price. I would recommend this to anyone who needs needs quality digital storage on a budget.

I am a photographer and storage has always been an issue. This hard-drive is a breeze to use. Having no power switch is no big deal.

This 3TB Elements External Desktop Hard Disk Drive is not just for multimedia but also for saving some work related stuff. Also i tried to use it as a virtual platform to set it up as a unix environment which worked pretty well so far.
