Bought this after my last WD external fileld up for backup. For $/GB, this drive is an great value.. It however is not very mobile: slightly big and clunky with a charger that needs to be dragged around. Pretty good if it just sit on a desk like I use it.

Simple as plug and use! This drive doesn’t seem very fast in transferring but for what it does, it does exactly what I want it to do – provide extra storage for extra files and backing up, especially my photography!! Stands alone nicely without taking up too much space and has no complicated setup. Would love to purchase another when the time comes for more storage space! Always trusted WD!!

So far so good, it is my 4th WD external drive and I am happy with all of them.

Easy to use for backup solution. We use Macrium Reflect Free to make Full and Differential backups automatically. 4TB is plenty of space to easily accommodate this task. Mother-in-law is happy, happy, happy. Drive was picked up automatically by Windows 7…no muss, no fuss.

I use this as a Time Machine backup drive for an Apple laptop. I plug it in and the software and drive do their thing.

The enclosure design has changed with the latest drive received in October 2020, but is similar enough that older tutorials still generally work the same.

It is not bad choice of 2TB Hard disk (HD)! The reason why I bought this 2TB HD is because it price was competitive ($/per TB) at B&H and also I need to expand IO Mega NAS drive further by attaching USB2 2TB (Max) device. Be honest to say, it is not bad selection from B&H.

I bought a pair to use as backup for all my RAW photo files. I have them (12TB each) loaded with about 5TB of files and they seem to be holding up well after 2 months. I use one as a primary and do nightly backups to the other one. For this purpose the low transfer speed is not an issue. However it is a little frustrating after migrating from a to them from 4 drive RAID 0 system. I was getting sustained write transfers at 100-200MB/s from the XQD cards and with these drives the write rates are just barely over 20MB/s. I am using USB 3.0 but this is not the limiting factor because my SANDISK SSDs on the same hub routinely sustain 200MB/s. I like the fact that these drives spin down so I don’t have to worry about keeping them powered up most of the time. I had a brief episode of a corrupted FAT (easily corrected). I don’t think this was an issue with the drive but rather a result of another failing drive in my system that resulted in an interrupted file transfer/system hang. Once I got them set up and files transferred to them they have been very reliable. The vertical design is also very desk space friendly.

The price is unbeatable. The delivery is fast and free. Item is brand-new with factory-wrapper unbroken. There is nothing more I can ask for. Highly recommended. I have quite a few of 3TB Elements External Hard Drive. Some of them are over a year. So far, I have no problems with any of them.

This is the second external HHD I have bought from WD and it has been great. I use this External HHD for all my photo storage for my photography business. I have had a great experience with it and it has not failed me yet. My uses for this external HHD are simply, I use it just for the drive; I do not use any of the software it came with, so I cannot speak to that.

This is a great option for a simple backup drive without the bells and whistle backup applications (which I never use anyway), capacity indicators (who cares, I see ACTUAL capacity usage in my computer view), power button (I always power on/off with my PC),etc. It’s my third WD external and the other 2 had the bells and whistles, that I never use. The price definitely makes it a great bargain, it’s small and quiet. Love it so far!

No disapointment, WD is a good product and easy. Buying at B&H was easy and fast.

I was surprised to see that over 1TB was used up and unavailable. Only 12.73TB is shown as available for use. That’s disappointing. What’s happening here? Does it come preloaded with over a TB of junk? If so, what is this stuff? Are there some programs on it or data that could compromise my computer or information? How can we tell? Would be nice to have some answers.
