Am in the process of transferring files to external drive so cannot give full review of product, yet. But, B &H excellent prices and wicked fast delivery.

I replaced a WD 500GB Elements with this 3TB external USB drive. Easy install and will not have to worry about backup storage space for a long time. Of course that’s what I said a few years ago when I purchased a 250GB drive!

Purchased to Relive my hard drive and free up some disc space. I cleaned up my drive and now have lots of room to store My Photos. Great Price.

just stopped working. Chip burned out, apparently

Have been using this hard drive for about 2 weeks. So far no problem. Transfer is a little slow compared to the same WD hard drive I got at Staples. From what I read there is two version of it, one is green and black. Not sure which one I have. Don’t expect 2 TB of storage. You get more like 1.8 or 1.9 TB of storage. Not sure why.

This is a stable and sturdy external hard drive. It sits there and manages its power consumption well. It stays cool and doesn’t get angry. It just sits there, storing data. When called upon, it performs. I trust this external hard drive.

Bought this one as a back up drive for the Better Halfs P.C. Plenty of space. I just let dear old Windows do the back up on a weekly basis and I dont need to try to understand her filing system. Happy me!

Great product. Great price.

Plug and play. Was initially afraid of the usb 2.0 instead of firewire, but the speed and cost of this is perfect for a backup drive. Unlike some other usb drives, this one HAS to be plugged into a power outlet to work. For some odd reason my computer takes much longer to boot with this attached-not a hit to the drive…it did the same with my web cam at first too…just be aware and don’t freak out like I almost did.

I bought two of these as a permanent archive solution for my audio production business. (I have the occasional need to go back and pull up old projects for various reasons.) The plan is to move completed projects to one drive and make a copy on the other for redundancy (to cover myself if one drive fails at any point). My archives till now have been on CD and then on DVD. Finally, the price point for hard drives has made them an attractive alternative. I was pleased to see the drives pre-formatted with the NTFS file system. In the past I’ve found myself re-formatting new drives to NTFS from their factory-formatted FAT 32 file system. I plugged them in, Windows XP automatically installed the drivers, and I was ready to go. I’ve now been moving archival data over to the drives for a few days, and all has gone perfectly. When they fill up, I’ll put them on a shelf and replace them with two new drives. Unless solid-state storage is affordable by then. :^) The only thing I can think of as a negative is that I could find no performance data (disk speed, seek time, etc.) for these drives. I assume they’re 5400 RPM drives. This is okay for my needs in this case, since I don’t need speed, just storage. I’m counting on the Western Digital name and factory warranty to be indicative of a decent life for the product. One more: there is no power switch. However, I intend to unplug these when not in use (lightning protection), so that’s not an issue for me. These are USB only drives. You will take up a USB port for each; not like Firewire, where you can daisy-chain them. That said, I usually have bad luck with daisy-chained Firewire drive connectivity, so I’m good with this. Also, a USB hub is an option if you run out of ports on your computer. These are no-frills, plain-Jane, minimum features drives at a great price point. Just what I need.

Old IT pro… like starting in the 80’s. Anyway, NTFS, plug and play, just a drive in a box. Worked perfectly. I bought two, never hurts to have another backup. The only true rating can be done if I have to power one up in 4-5 years and it fails. We’ll see, given what I know about hardware I’m not too worried. Again, time will tell but for now I’m happy.

Perfect for archiving media. I’ve used these drives for 5 years now and haven’t had any fail or die.

Lots of room to run time machine and store extra files. It runs quietly. But you do have to reformat for a mac.
