Used this drive to backup video files. Shopped around a little bit and B&H definitely has the most competitive prices.

I have 2 of these – I keep one at home and the other at the office as backup. Works well and data transfer speed is good. Would be good if the HDD had a switch to turn on/off the drive rather than turning on as soon as you plug it in.

does the job

I really liked the easy to install nature of the product. I do not consider myself a computer expert yet this product was up and running in 10 minutes. liked it so much I bought a second unit (smaller 1tb) for my second computer.

It works, havent had it for long but WD has always worked for me.

Exactly what it says it is- and incredibly reliable. USB 2.0 can handle high speeds to some degree (like HD video editing), but it’s really made for archives and backups. Other brands have failed on me, but I haven’t had a single problem with a WD drive for the 6 years I’ve used them.

I bought this 500 GB Western Digital Hard Drive on the recommendation from our webmaster who advised me to never buy the hard drive which had crashed on me twice. As a staff photojournalist, I store photos on the device and have a quiet satisfaction with this purchase, especially from B&H who have always provided the best at the best price.

I bought the WD 3TB hard drive to use as a backup for my photographs. It was on sale. (I remember buying a 212 MB hard drive for my 1st Gateway at almost 4 times the cost of this one.)It has plenty of storage; enough for my needs…now, and with my 4 other hard drives (all WD) I have plenty for the foreseeable future. It doesn’t take up any more space on my desktop than any of my other WD HD’s so that’s a plus.My only complaints have to do with speed. I also back up my personal finance Excel spreadsheet to it and when I go to save it, it sometimes stalls for a about fifteen seconds or so to get to the Save As screen, as sometimes another ten seconds or more when I hit the Save button. The other, speed-related thing that’s not so great is the spindle speed. I know that when I buy an internal HD, I can choose from 5400 RPM to 7200 RPM because the speed rating is clearly marked on the package AND the hard drive itself. There is NO way to determine the speed of the external models, at least the ones I have, but somehow I discovered it was only 5400 RPM. Why is the speed not clearly marked?

This product is great right out of the box. I did have to reformat using disk utility as I’m running a Mac, but that’s no biggie (the only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5) Looks nice, no annoying bright light. I know it’s running because I see it on my computer desktop. I’ve always relied on WD products, and this one is no exception.

I moved months of edited videos and photos there, they were there fine. Then the next time I wanted to add new files a few days later, the drive was suddenly unrecognized. Real usage time was probably just a few hours. No real support from WD either as I was told to get my own data recovery, and initialize my own drive over it.

I’ve had several WD external drives. All have been portable, and never have they failed although they do get a bit warm. This is the first one with its own power supply which keeps them cool. It’s formatted for Mac

I’m using this drive as a backup for both my PC and my Mac & I was able to reformat & partition it without a problem. Also, I didn’t realize that it came with a 1 year warranty at the time I bought it, but it does, so that makes me happy, too. It’s a USB only drive, so if you’re looking for speed, this is not the drive for you. But if you’re looking for space to keep a lot of data & you’re not in any hurry, this is a good choice. I did my research before I bought this drive and it had the best customer satisfaction to low price ratio that I could find out there.

Simple to install, It does not make noise and turns on and off with computer automatically !! Works great !! No bologna software either!!

The drive works great in my NAS; it is performing exactly as expected with no known issues. My only complaint is the packaging. It is less annoying than that hard plastic clamshell packaging some things come in, and certainly not as hazardous to your hands, but it takes a lot of work to get the drive out of its packaging; it adds too much waste. It would be nice if the drive itself was sold separate, but it costs so much more to not include the packaging; WD needs to work on that.

Works fine. Easy to set up.

Product was easy to use out of the box. No driver or hardware installation necessary. Worked well with my anti-virus software (Vipre). No issues with data transfer to hardrive.

I use this Hard Drive to back up all of my video files from my camcorders. I frees up space on my iMac and MacBook which helps keep both computers running fast. I really enjoy it because it works with my Mac computers and the price was great!

Only had it for a week so no long term observation here. I just hooked it up and started storing files. Truly, a no hassle undertaking. Ive got an earlier model Elements that I have been using for three or more years and not a problem. Got both on sale for great prices. Whats not to like.
