These drives wouldn’t backup a Windows System Image until I reformatted them with a WD quick formatter. Download name is WD_Quick_Formatter_Win_1_2_0_10.zip . Also, when I connected both drives only one showed up. Apparently both were trying to use the same drive letter. I was able to resolve this with a visit to: Admistrative Tools – Computer Management – Storage – Disk Management. Both drives were visible there, and the second one could be put online.

Ive used Western Digital Hard Drives For 8 years now. No Problems so far.Its Very quiet and it lays down flat {horizontally} so you dont have to worry about it being knocked over. It was easy to format it before i used it to Back up My IMAC. It was about two hours using the USB cable, not that long of a wait considering that i had almost 300GB to back up, but it would be better if they gave the option to use a Firewire.

THis external hard drive works great. It fulfills it’s purpose perfectly. It a little heavier than most and cumbersome but it is not a set back at all. You are getting a great product for what you are paying. I have recommended it to all my friends. It was an awesome purchase on my part.

This 4 TB hard drive is fantastic for my applications. I edit video and the transfer speed of this device is amazing when I transfer the video files to this drive. The USB 3.0 speed is great and the amount of space is perfect. I would recommend this drive for anyone who is into video editing or high res media. All of my files are in 1080p soon to be in ultra HD and fitting all my files on this device is a breeze. If you want to shut it off using the power button on the back, just make sure you unplug the device from the computer. if it’s plugged in the computer it will not turn off unles your computer is off (this isn’t a con but something worth mentioning).Go get one ASAP.

I plugged this WD 10TB elements (9.09 TB available) USB 3.0 External Hard drive into a USB 3.0 Gen 1 jack on my desktop PC’s front panel. After turning it on, it came right up on my monitor with a notice that it can automatically be backed up into the cloud by Dropbox. I started the transfer of 3 GBs of data files and was notified that it would take 3 hours and 30 minutes which was accurate. The files were copied (155 MB/s) into a new folder marked External on the WD 10 TB Elements External drive. At one point during the backup, the drive made a slight screeching noise after which I couldn’t access the drive. Checkdisk reported a major error. I unplugged the power, let it sit for 10 seconds, and powered it up again. It came back to life and quickly passed a routine Windows 11 scan and DOS check disk scan and repair test. If I keep the drive, it will be only a backup drive, not the main drive for key files. If I get another error, I’m returning this drive.

This is my fourth WD back up drive. They have always proven to be dependable and I enjoy the automated backup feature.

I just received this hard drive and it was extremely easy to set up. It’s very, very quiet. I didn’t even know it was on. So far so good.

Wait for the product for 70 days !! Does that make sense to you? That’s why I hardly buy products from you !! Your delivery time is unreliable

Lesson videos can be hours long resulting in large files. This drive can handle it and at usb 3.0, the speed is acceptable.

Have had this drive for a few weeks and all has been great thus far. Using it to store media files. Great pricing and shipping. Item was shipped same day I ordered it and was delivered the next day! Can’t complain about that…

great unit/great company. I prefer to archive using this unit instead of the cloud. It holds many tons of data and I upload my files and put it on the shelf…..job done!!

Be aware that WD does not specify a particular model for the drive they put into this enclosure, only that it meets the specs provided. I have bought 4 of these now, with the internal drives falling into two different models: WD100EMAZ, and WD101EDAZ. The WD100EMAZ drives are helium filled, fast (between ~150 and ~180 megabytes/sec sustained write depending on where on the platter you are), and whisper-quiet. I can only hear them while accessing and spinning up/spinning down. I would rate these 5 stars. The WD101EDAZ drive which is the most recent one I’ve bought is air-filled, slightly slower (~10 megs/sec I think, but I haven’t used it yet as extensively as the others), and significantly louder. I can hear this drive while it’s idling, though it’s still quieter than the last 7200 RPM drive I bought, so it’s not ludicrous. It’s still much louder than I expected based on previous experience. I’d rate this somewhere in the 3-4 star range. I really wish it was quieter since it sits on my desk and I have a virtually silent PC. The WD100EMAZ drives are still going strong after a year of continuous use (one has been kept spun up and on on a daily basis, a second was allowed to spin down according to the default powersaving/parking program, so it has thousands of restarts on it). The WD101EDAZ appears to be fine so far, though it only has one month of operation on it. In sum, YMMV based on which drive WD happens to put into the enclosure. Since the air-filled drives are no doubt cheaper to manufacture, I would expect those to become more common as time goes on.

Love the 2TB Elements for the simplicity and affordability. Right out of the box I wrote 60gb of data to it and it was barely warm afterward. A little slow but for the price I cant complain. Would definitly recommend it to anyone!

Quite a while ago I decided that I needed additional storage to keep all my data, but until now I hadn’t been able to decide what hard drive to chose. Western Digital elements seemed to be both reliable, quiet and simple to use, which was exactly what I was looking for. I was a bit concerned that it would look too big and bulky, but admittedly the only thing you have to worry about in terms of appearance of this hard drive is leaving your fingerprints all over it’s surface. The actual product did not disappoint. In no time it has become an indispensable part of my life and I have absolutely no idea how i had lived without it before. In fact, I like it so much, I am considering buying one for my younger brother to make him stop borrowing mine.

I use this drive for hundreds of gigs of multimedia and data as my primary storage device. So far, it’s been great, and very fast. Had a file corrupted on it, which caused my system resources to get eaten up, so not sure if it was a data problem or a drive problem, but managed to get things returned to normal. Very happy overall with this drive.
