I was little concerned when I unpacked the boxes from the shipping box (which was well packed) as there were rattling sounds – turned out that the cable & power adaptor were not securely packed. I bought two of these as I’ve outgrown my 1 TB drive for image stroage – 1 for main storage & 1 for backup. The units are designed to lay flat vs. the other 6 external drives I have that stand on end. The power & data ports are located on the top. I guess I should have noticed this before I purchased but I had not seen this configuration before. Set up no problem and they make no noise. One very small l e d by data port to indicate power/activity. no on/off switch, no cooling vents embarassing note: while testing I accidentally caused one of the drives to fall off my desk while it was writing – about a 3 ‘ drop – it sprung open the back of the case and the data cable came unplugged. I snapped the case back together, plugged in the data cable, acknowledged the write error and restarted another transfer – no problem – movie played back fine. 12 min to transfer a 700 MB movie through a USB 1.0 port.

Plug & Play… no formatting needed. I love it! It’s great for backing up all my 4K Video files. Thanks WD / Thanks B&H

Thank you very much for every thing

The great price might be because it is USB 2.x vice 3.x but, regardless, it was still a great bargain. Plenty of storage space for a great price. Plug and play means you can take it from one box to next. Most people don’t even have USB 3.x yet, so these should be selling like hot cakes for a while!

Works as expected. I reformatted the drive with btrfs for archival purposes. Works well, but does take many minutes to complete the sync to the drive after a backup.

I was attracted to this product because of it’s great price and what I thought to be an excellent brand. You have to reformat these hard drives for Mac, and while I thought this would be a piece of cake, it ended up being a nightmare for my old Powerbook G4. I ordered two identical drives, and neither drive could be partioned on my computer, even after hours of internet instructions and two extremely long phone calls with WD’s customer service. I was not impressed with WD’s customer service, and have decided I will no longer purchase their products. …

I don’t know how you do it but I always get my product on the West coast in a couple days after ordering! Product is very small with lots of HD space.

I have a Dell XPS laptop. I pulled the 2TB out of its box, plugged it in and it was ready to use . It was like it came with the compute .

This is my 2nd HD both 2TB they work great and I backup on each other. Excellent price … None of the drives had ever failed so far, I also have a 1.5 TB and also works great.

As long as you understand it’s only USB 2.0, so it’s a bit slow, it’s a huge amount of space for only 3TB. I own two of them.

Have only been using it a few weeks but so far so good. Great value and design (cooling vents etc).

I have been used for 1 month, so far I have no problem.

Easy to use and easy to install up and running in minutes.

I got this to store second, back-up copies of my photo’s. I shoot with a hi-res camera and files are comparatively large so the large storage capability is appreciated. I can’t really comment on the speed other than to say that it’s plenty fast enough for making back-up copies of photo’s.

Have it only for a couple of weeks. Bought this as a backup drive. Setup was easy with Acronis True Image. Sits on my desk next to a Seagate external drive. Does what it’s supposed to do. So far, so good.

Have not had this long but set up was simple enough. Simply plugged in the USB cable and then the power and Windows XP recognized this as an additional storage device. Does not include back up software from WD which is a bonus for me.

This is awesome. Just as fast as my 2 tb ESATA drives. So glad I got the 4 tb

I have been using it to back up 1.2TB of data. It’s not fast while using USB 2, but it gets the job done. The external ac adaptor is not very huge. It’s one of the reason I bought it because I hate to have a huge power adaptor dangling around my desk.

I use this to store all my downloaded video and music, and I couldn’t be happier with WD products. I’ve never had a single problem in 10 years of using their stuff, and the value for what you get for the price is great. Highly recommended!
