It features a 5 Gb/s micro-USB 3.0 interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, and is compatible with 480 Mb/s USB 2.0. I’ve been using WD Elements drives for years. Started with a 1 Tb drive and have been working my way up to this 16 Tb drive. Never had one fail. Easy to set up and maintain and, when they’re on sale at B&H, they’re a real deal.

I use the external drive for backing up files. It may not be the fastest thing out there but then I don’t need it to be. I’ve bought Western Digital harddrives in the past and have been satisfied with the drives themselves. Sometimes the enclosures go belly up on you but the drive itself seems to be robust. Caution, do not knock it over while the drive is spinning. Ever. For the price, and the quality which comes with WD, this 2TB harddrive is one of the best values out there. Setup was deceptively simple. Just plug it in, the computer recognizes it immediately, then start loading it up. The only drawback to that was that I’ve never had a HD be so easy, so I thought I was missing something. Documentation was less than stellar on that point so I contacted WD support and they answered my question quickly and easily. So…. just plug it in and start using it… No formatting needed (unless you’re going FAT32 format). Amazing. Very quiet, more so than earlier WD models. I have it on the floor near my foot as I type and I can’t hear it at all. Only if I crawl down there and put my ear up to it can I detect anything.

Needed to set up for a Mac, but as a neophite I had to call WD support. They were patient, efficient and it was up and running very quickly. So far so good. A lot of storage for the money and seems very reliable.

I just may be old but this much storage for $ bucks is amazing. I have only had it a couple of weeks but I put all of my pics, videos, and songs on the thing and have hardly nicked the pie chart. I love that I don’t have to rely on my laptop to hold files anymore.

This external hard drive doesn’t have the software installed on it and I was unable to schedule the backup of the files I wanted to protect. After fighting with it for several hours I finally called B&H help desk and that person got me straightened around. He also recommended a different WD hard drive that has the necessary software already installed. I purchased that hard drive, also, and it works fine.

ran out of space on my 1TB Elements, so picked up this one.it saves data efficiently, but has slightly less than 3TB space advertised (effective space is 2.7TB)price was right so it still was good value on sale.

I use this external HDD to backup my work files. 3TB is plenty of storage as long as you aren’t dealing with movies/large images. The price/GB on this product was great, best i’ve seen on a 3TB+ drive.
