I got this drive for my parents as a replacement for a 1.5TB Seagate from 2010. It will mostly be used as a backup drive. This drive has admirably fast performance, especially for its low power draw. I copied large amounts of data and ran some burn-in tests too. On both my computer which has USB 3.0 and my mother’s computers which have only USB 2.0, the drive performed consistently and without problems. The one hiccup I ran into was that the System Image feature in Windows 7 does not work with this drive. Fortunately, WD’s website provides a free copy of Acronis TrueImage which filled the need perfectly.I also had an excellent experience with B&H’s customer service. Overall a solid value for the price I paid.

Easy Setup for my iMac, followed quick and easy instructions to format. I use external hard drives for all the video footage I edit. Compact, affordable. Could use an on/off switch but I just try to remember to unplug it when powering down.

I use it mainly for backup for my photography business files. It was very easy to install, just plug in and go, and it’s very quiet, I don’t even know that it’s there.

Plug and Play on Windows 7 64 bit. Use it on a DAW for storing projects not currently in progress. Only had it now for about a month. Can’t speak to relibility. Real good price point frrom B&H.

I back up my photos and videos using this. Just plug in the usb cord that comes with it and it is very easy to use. The only thing I don’t like is that there is not any where close to 4 TB of free space — more like 3.63 TB. Think about it, that amounts to 370 gigabytes of storage that just isn’t there!

Easy plug n play. Lots of space and decent speed. This is more for storage than consistent intense work load like video editing. With protective case, it can be taken anywhere unlike a bare drive that has to stay within a desktop. So if you need to transport HUGE files around, this is the drive for you. Just wished it had the option of taking out the bare drive inside and placing it back.

I bought a total of 5. They all ran well. If you are still afraid to buy, please try one?

Our production company ordered two of these, and not only do they have a tremendous amount of space — but they’re also fast and don’t interfere with our workflow. Very happy we selected this drive.

2 TB for about $100! It’s quiet, and works as well as you would expect a USB 2 drive to work (i.e. don’t expect massive speeds). I have it plugged into my AEBS, and it’s perfect for Time Machine backups of all three household laptops. The chassis is non-descript black plastic, but that’s fine for my requirements, and I’m not a fan of flashing lights. No power switch, so you’ll have to disconnect it from the mains if you don’t want it on all the time.

Fills a need for automated TimeMachine backup for an Apple Mac mini superbly. Supported flawless migration of entire system contents to a new 2014 Mac mini in the last week. Could not ask more.

The large size of these newer USB drives makes it easy to use them to store the massive amounts of data that newer programs and cameras generate. While disks (CD-R, DVD-R) are still a better backup method, this will allow you to keep files at your fingertips. My only problem is that the drive connector should have been the more rugged USB type B rather than mini USB, not a major issue if you don’t use it as a portable.

The HD is excellent and the shipping was fine

WD drives are reliable, and so far, these are no exception. However, the usable space is approximately 5.5 TB. There seems to be 0.5 TB of disk operational overhead, which seems high.

Western Digital makes reliable drives. This one performs just as expected — easy to get up and running. Data transfer speeds are quite good, and it has space to spare. I certainly don’t see filling it, and I back up videos that I produce professionally. Only time will tell if it is durable, but I expect it to be based on experience with WD’s past reliability.

I mostly use the drive for backing up my music and video collection. It is very silent and pretty fast. This drive is not meant to be a mobile drive, so I have kept it on my desk and connect it to the computer whenever I want. It is a bargain at the price of $85.

It plugged in and took the overload from my minuscule 30 gig hard drive. No problems so far.

I bought two of these just to back up photos. Not the fastest or quietest but huge storage for a good price. Very happy with them so far.

Worth every penny, this is for my backups backup! Easy to use out of the box, plug and play. Got 4TB for price of 1TB.
