I have purchased several Western Digital My Book external hard drives over the last five years. I always back up my files in at least two separate locations. I decided to try a 2 TB Element which I’ve found to be more preferable than the My Book series. With the My Book series you pay extra for software that is not necessary and does not get good ratings. The Element is smaller in physical size and is a breeze to set up and use. I’m 100% satisfied with my purchase and with B&H!!

Hard drive failed after only a few months of use. Sent to WD authorized service to see if data could be retrieved. It could, but for a price I couldn’t think of paying. Then sent to WD while still under warranty. They said it had been tampered with and voided the warranty. The only tampering was by their authorized service. But worse than the rejection was that they haven’t responded to any of my multiple inquiries over a two week period. So, I asked them to return the drive at my expense. No reply yet.

Formatting for Mac was pretty smooth. No issues so far after about a week of continuous use. Runs quiet. Will need to see how reliable it is after in a year or two.

This is an economical way to insure you will have your pictures forever. I use two, one as main storage and one as backup. I only keep programs on my computer hard drive. If one fails, (and, eventually, it will), you have the other one with your shots. It happened to me once with the 1TB drive. The only drawback is that it is slower opening files through a USB connection than it would be off your internal drive. Many pros keep one at a remote site to insure there pictures will still be safe if a calamity befalls their workplace.

This is my second WD External Hard drive. I many External Hard Drive. I bought this Hard drive for Back up after my other brand Hard Drive the disk was cracked. So I bought this hard drive for reasonable price and the case look stronger.

I recently purchased two 3TB Elements hard drives for use as my primary external storage for photos. Small and stack-able, plug them in and their ready to use.

I’ve only had it for a couple weeks, but so far it works as expected. I reformatted it so I could use it with time machine and it works great. Got it for $ which is a great deal for 3TB

As close to perfection as I can imagine. Speed, capacity, noise level all as expected. Only minor deteail is no power switch. Simple and fool proof. Completely sealed yet cool operation. I now have the space archive my videos, among other things. *a full system backup comes to mind )

I am using the drive as a DVR external drive on my Dish network Vip 211 Rec. It works great no problems,

So I’ve had this about a month no problems yet. Neither WD or seagate is without issues So I can not review this until after the warranty runs out. That is the true measure. Hope it makes it. Gotten good with recovery software. I should point out I have both brands that have exceeded warranty. I have both that haven’t.

Overall, great drive. I used it to house video files and photographs after filling up my 1TB drive. Video files play quickly and don’t skip or stutter. Image files load easily. I have a small SSD drive as my primary drive so having this 3TB drive to store my media is a godsend.

What can I say about these drives , for me nothing but good things. I bought my first WD drive way back in 2006 or 7, a 1terrabyte sounds funny today and soon after another one and they are both still working just fine to this day. They have since been used for my redundant off site photo back ups and replaced with more WD drives. I just added them I have 12 WD drives 4 of them the smaller travel drives and the only one that failed was all on me as I beat on it a little to hard but I was able to retrieve the files and sent it into WD and they sent me a new one. So for me there is no other drive.

I’ve exclusively only used WD externals for 10 years now, never once have any of those drives failed me. I am a firm believer in backing up, (if it’s not in three places it doesn’t exist), I run 4-8 externals daily, the 8TB is a beautiful addition to any of your externals. It’s quiet, and can be turned off, it also connects amazingly to external hubs if needed. Never slow to respond either. I have many 5TB’s, but I will say this 8TB may be my rotation favorite. I replace at least 4 drives a year and store them off site, and in safes, so my future holds more 8TB’s!

Love these things. Have a ton of them. They all work well and have never had any major issues with them (knock on wood).

made a bit of a noise when first started up and PC did not recognize it. took 2 attempts: disconnect/restart. Also, formatting a drive this size takes overnight. But now all is well!

I bought two of these hard drives so I could back up my computer then back up the back up. I have only had them a month so I cannot speak to longevity of the drives, but they have been working very well so far. The transfer rate is very adequate, and I haven’t had any trouble so far. It’s a great buy for the price! I got 2 for $

I’ve owned many of these drives and use them for backups. No failures. They work as advertised!

Too soon to report on longevity but I am happy with this drive thus far. Copied several TB at a time to this drive and though it gets warm running for a while, is working fine. Works great with WIN 7 and WIN8
