Solid, large backup drive for data. Reliable, and large storage footprint at a very reasonable price. Slightly slow because of the USB interface, but not an issue when used primarily as a backup device.

Use for backup of a variety of file sizes, transfer speeds are acceptable, I think my laptop hard drive is limiting speed. I’ve had 3 of these for 6 months, one of which has been through some rough handling, and they’re all still fine, but I only plug them in when backing up so they haven’t seen much run time. Have a light on back that blinks when in use, but easily covered up with tape or whatever if that bothers you. No on-off switch but I’ve never used the one on my HD that has it. I unplug when not in use and cycle which drive is backed up to, the cheap but slower and more effort-requiring version of a RAID array (with no controller to fail either).

Pros $20/TBis outstanding value. Transfer speeds are good. The LED light isn’t annoyingly bright Cons Takes a while to spin up after going to sleep. If asleep when turning off your computer it’ll wake for some reason. Your computer boots and shuts down slower. It makes a constant whirring sound when awake. If you want to manually turn it off you have to hold the power button for 5 seconds or unplug it. It requires a wall outlet to provide power. I had hoped it was USB powered. Other Being annoyed with many of it’s external traits I ripped the HD out of the case and put it in my computer. It wasn’t easy. There are rubber pieces at the 4 corners holding the drive in place and they are stuck due to plastic tabs being in the way. I brute strengthed it out but if you have a small rotary saw it would be easy to get out. I wish they would just sell the same drive without the enclosure for the same price. Currently this drive is going for $100.

Works as advertised. Very fast access to files. 4 TB is way more than I need, but it’s nice to have the space.

I recieved this hard drive in good time. Really didn’t have to set it up. One thing is that you can hardly tell if it is running because you can’t here it. Have just started moving pictures and some small movies to the external drive, so far no problem at all. Very happy with this product.

Huge space….but bulkier than expected but still portable…..USB 3.0 would be more desirable with such huge storage but it will costlier too….In nutshell, good value for money….:)

Replacing a WD 4TB with this 8TB. Smaller footprint and is faster than my old drive. The only disappointment was it came with a USB 2 cord.
Myra Volkman (verified owner) –
Drive is solid and a good value for the price.

Quick and easy reformat for Mac and easy setup for Time Machine backups. Reliably backs up my data on schedule. If it lasts as long as my old Seagate, Ill be very happy.

Easy to use. It is smaller than I expected- very compact for a 3.5 inch drive. Although it doesn’t have a power switch, the USB data cable is serving as a switch, and it is working well for me. I ‘ve owned it for 2 weeks, so far so good, I do not copy and paste frequently, I use it as a backup for another 2TB drive. What I need is a durable drive, let’s wait and see.

When I first looked at purchasing a DSLR there was a package of freebees. Mon pod, camera bag, cleaning supplies, etc., which every photographer should have and need. But I already had what was in the bonus, so it really wasn’t much of a bonus. However, when I order the DSLR I was surprised to find out the bonus had changed to a 4TB drive. NOW THAT IS A BONUS! If there is one shortcoming to digital photography is the constant need for storage. The drive is amazing. Easy to set-up, easy to use, and reliable. No complaints on my end.

So far so good. It is a fast external drive that gives LOTS of space and storage. Perfect for a Drone film collection of large files! Love it!

Used this drive on a RAID5 array recovery transfer and I am very pleased. With USB 3.0 this unit is extremely fast for recovery copying and data re-transfer. Totally simple solution for transfering large amounts of data at an incredibly affordable price. Couldn’t be happier!

This is a great desktop hardrive, works just as described, but that is usually the case with WD drives.

This was my best bet to use across multiple platforms (Windows & Linux). Very fast disk with huge disk space. I had no issues watching HD movies directly from the the WD Elements. BTW i use USB 3.0 to connect this drive. I have configured this drive to work shared with in my house network and works perfectly with multiple devices.

Doesn’t have auto back up like the My Book series HDD but that’s ok, plenty of other software out there to fix that if you chose. Read and Write speeds are about the norm for a mechanical drive. Faster than a 2.5 portable disk also sustained read and write is superior to a comparable 2.5 inch drive. Scratches really easy can’t believe they haven’t changed the color schemes to a Matte black yet but I imagine it’s cheaper to use these right out of the mold then again if it goes threw another process to make it sheen in that case should a could a but didnt so fingerprint magnet it is. I put wood grain Vinyl-tac paper on mine so it’s not so ugly. Has a button to power on and off in the back which is nice. I am unsure if this turns on every time my PC turns on I think it does regardless if you had turned it off threw the power switch on last shut down. Its a good buy when on sale.

This is a great drive, and you should have total confidence in it. Drives from both seagate and WD are so good that you should ignore the random negative reviews about my drive failed. Drive failure stats from BackBlaze show that both are extremely reliable. No drive lasts forever, and the occasional drive dies early. That is why you use 3-2-1 backup so any one drive failing is an inconvenience, not a crisis. I buy both WD and Seagate so my storage is a good mix of both.

Used as a weekly backup device for a home MAC. It’s easy to install. I don’t need encription or other fancy features offered by others. Time Machine on the MAC is sufficient for my needs. I don’t keep TimeMachine up and running all the time because it eats resources up on the MAC. So I have decided to formalize a backup procedure every week. It’s manual. After I’m done. I disconnect the drive, store it.
