Preformatted NTFS for systems running Windows 10, 8.1, or 7, the 14TB Elements Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD provides users with up to 14TB of add-on storage for their photos, videos, music, documents, and other files. It features a 5 Gb/s micro-USB 3.0 interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, and is compatible with 480 Mb/s USB 2.0. It is powered using an 100-240 VAC power adapter, is formatted NTFS for Windows, and includes a USB cable.

Just got it working. It really was as easy as plugging it into the wall and a USB port. I immediately deleted a couple of pre-installed files – don’t need ’em. Right now I’m backing up a bunch of video files that I would hate to lose. FWIW I’m using it with an HP Z640 Workstation running Windows 10.

WD has a really great reputation and this unit was the same price as a 4 tb at Walmart. You have to format it but my boys are using it on their xbox one. Will probably buy another one since they almost have this one full.

No complaints, it does what it is supposed to do–provide backup for all my media and other stuff. This is my second Western Digital external hard drive, I also have the MyBook 3TB, which has exactly the same form factor as this one. Here’s some good info though, if you are just after USB 3.0 driven storage and nothing else–you don’t want to deal with WD’s proprietary backup software providing some amount of cloud storage (which is a feature of the MyBook series), get the Elements edition of the drive, which I think sell a bit cheaper than the MyBooks or whatever else they call their drives that offer a cloud backup solution. But I’ve never had a problem with failures with these drives, but I do run two backups in case one drive happens to fail.

My first order came with a faulty one. So after contacting B&H, they asked me to return the product. The second shipment I received after several days was absolutely perfect. No complaint whatsoever. Using this 6TB on my xbox one s. Working superb. For the drive itself I give a 5 star. I didnt take away points for the trouble. B&H didnt know that drive was faulty. They were great.

This is the 5th 3TB elements drive I’ve purchased and all of them continue to run, including the first one, purchased years ago. Seagate drives of the same size have come, died, and were buried, but the Western Digitals have never given me a bit of trouble. I can’t wait for the 4TB spindle prices to come down more.

I recently received this item and have been using it to backup all my important and not-so-important files so that I don’t lose them. There is no software to install, just plug and play. It acts just like the hard drive in my computer. The only thing that would make it better is if it had USB 3.0.
