I use this for backup. Just got it and it works so far so no complaints here. It seems to be the cheapest 4TB drive right now, thats why I got it.

Its hard to rate a hard drive, as it either works or it doesn’t and if it fails its not likely to be in the first week. This drive seems to be working fine. The price on this 3TB drive is great, no doubt, but being limited to USB 2 speeds really undermines the value. I can imagine that if you were to copy 3TB of data in one sitting it would take several days to complete. Not sure what else to say. The case is attractive enough. It’s a 3.5 mechanism so it requires an external power source.

Great for storing photos/important documents

Good amount of storage for the price. Fairly fast file transfers. I have another older version of this drive that has not had any corruption issues in the 3+ years I’ve used it. My one wish is that this could draw power through the USB like the WD passport drives, so I didn’t have to deal with another power cable. At least the power cord has been trimmed down from the older version, so it doesn’t overlap adjacent outlets on my power strip.

Basically a big repository for data storage from a reliable manufacture. Box runs cooler then boxes from other manufacturers. The only drawback is that the case is wider then expected, maybe because of the large storage capacity.

I bought 2 of these, one for each of my DishNet 722 receivers. Since high def programs eat up so much data the inboard hard drive in the receivers fill up quickly so adding 2 TB of storage was necessary and easy to accomplish in minutes. The receivers immediately recognized the external HD after simply attaching the power and USB cables. All the prompts for formatting and then archiving and/or accessing programs were the usual Dish-easy. It is small, silent and the black plastic exterior looks almost like it was made to match receivers. The only indication that it is working is the flashing light blue light emanating from the AC input (external power via a plug-in transformer, with no on/off switch if that matters to you). If I ever need extra storage in the future for my Macs I will definitely consider this Western Digital 2TB external hard drive again. An excellent value.

I use this hard drive for making backup images of my three computers. This HD doesn’t come with backup software, but that’s the whole point of this model (I have my own software). Lots of storage and a pretty small form factor.

works very well for storing photos and videos. It takes even video post production editing if there is more than 50% free space left

I needed something to put all my photos on and it works great! Fantastic deal, the best I could find. The only downside is there is no power switch but that’s ok with me cause I just keep in I. My desk when I don’t need it.

I’m using it for my Mac backups with Time Machine. I had it up and running within minutes of unpacking. I am impressed with how quiet and cool the drive runs. I am very pleased with the drive. A great product, for an incredible price.

Drive works well so far. No crashes. The USB 3 cable that came with it was poor quality and ejected the disk if moved even the slightest. After replacing that cable everything worked great. I use this for offsite backup of my main RAID array.

No hassles. Connect it, apply power, and go.

Apart from LaCie, Western Digital is my go-to external drive of choice. Most drives have a standard to above standard life expectancy and stability. Works well and fast with Mac. Doesn’t seem to get too hot when working hard and long.

Works great for backing up my MacBook Pro. Great price and has plenty of storage for all of my pictures, videos, and music. I would highly recommend this external hard drive.

Time will tell, but this unit is performing well.

Connected to a Win 10 desktop it was recognized immediately. Very large capacity and reasonable transfer speed for the price.

I have had previous WD external HDD and very happy with my purchases. High quality product, tons of data storage. If I was to have a do over I think I would of purchased two smaller drives, maybe 8 TB to have double backup of all my images, but still very happy with my purchase.

I’m always on the lookout for great deals, especially ones coming from B&H Photo. And this 14TB WD Elements desktop hard drive was one of them. Back in March of this year, I’d bought a 12TB WD Elements external hard drive from B&H for $180 with free shipping and zero sales tax since I’d purchased it with my PayBoo/B&H credit card. That works out to be $15/TB! The latest deal I bought from B&H was this 14TB WD external hard drive for $260, which translates to $18.57/TB. This was still an excellent buy considering the price of electronics, especially hard drives, has recently skyrocketed due to the COVID supply chain shortages. B&H’s closest competitor was $20 higher, and I would’ve had to pay another $20 in sales tax. That made it a $40 savings for me. These ultra-high capacity USB hard drives are great for storing my huge collection of Blu-rays and DVDs, both as back-ups and as a convenient means of playback without having to shuffle through my extensive Blu-ray and DVD collection (I have over 2000 titles), opening the case (sometimes finding an empty case since my wife or kids took the disc somewhere else and never bothered to put it back!), inserting the discs into the Blu-ray player, and wait for it to cycle on. Now, I can quickly sort and scroll through with my computer to find a movie I want, and watch it using CyberLink’s PowerDVD that I’d also bought from B&H for $58; another great value. Needless-to-say, aside from the convenience of playing Blu-rays and DVDs from my computer, having the ability to backup and store all my Blu-rays and DVDs onto a couple of ultra-high capacity, portable hard drives is priceless since I’ve invested a small fortune collecting and building my movie and TV series collection. At an average of $20 per Blu-ray and $15 per DVD, that’s over $25,000 in purchases I’ve made over the years! What’s more, I live in a wild-land fire prone area, and to gather up 2000+ boxed discs during an evacuation at a moment’s notice would be almost impossible, not to mention the time and space that are required, especially in the midst of an evacuation, I wouldn’t have the luxury of either. Now, if and when the time has come to book out of Dodge, all I have to do is grab two book-size hard drives, together with our other more important items and belongings, I no longer have to worry about loosing my entire movie and TV collection. As for the Western Digital portable USB hard drive, I’ve always had good experience with WD hard drives in general. Of all the external hard drives I’ve owned and used over the years (nearly a hundred), I’ve never had a WD drive failed on me (fingers crossed! Lol), except one, which was entirely my fault since I’d dropped it onto a hardwood floor while the drive was in use and spinning. All of the other failed hard drives (for no apparent reasons at all – they’d just up and died) I’ve owned have either been Seagate, Maxtor, and Quantum – the latter two were inherited by Seagate through mergers and acquisitions. But that’s just my own experience, yours might differ. Also, it just seems to me that the WD drives have faster throughput than other hard drives I’ve used in the past, but that’s an anecdotal observation, again based on my own experience. All-in-all, I’ve had good experience with Western Digital drives, and expect that this 14TB desktop unit will provide me with the same longevity and reliable service.

I like the product. However, the USB Cable that came with it is very very short about 1.5 feet making it hard to connect to my PC. Wish I could get a bigger cable.

So far it works as advertised. Needed the 10TB to hold all of my music
