Preformatted NTFS for systems running Windows 10, 8.1, or 7, the 14TB Elements Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD provides users with up to 14TB of add-on storage for their photos, videos, music, documents, and other files. It features a 5 Gb/s micro-USB 3.0 interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, and is compatible with 480 Mb/s USB 2.0. It is powered using an 100-240 VAC power adapter, is formatted NTFS for Windows, and includes a USB cable.

After hearing my laptop drive growl at me every morning for too long, I called my techie son for help. He said back the thing up. I started checking external drive prices and called him, again, with my results. He referred me to the 2tb external by western, saying that for the price I really couldn’t go wrong. Having dealt with B&H previously, I felt comfortable with the dealer. I ordered…. I plugged it in. It worked. I transferred all my files to it. So far so good.

Only formats as MS-DOS for Mac, which usually causes problems, but seems okay thus far for this drive. I’ve been using it for time-machine back-ups. I have not tried to transfer any large video files yet.

My personal experience with this Hard drive has been splendid! It runs seamlessly, operates quietly and remains visible. If you are looking for good but inexpensive storage, this is your answer. I have had it for over a month and it continues to be a pleasing purchase. I especially like the feature that shuts it off when you power down your computer. Appears to be slow when transferring data but then that might be my computer. Overall, I am mighty pleased with my purchase. This is my second Western Digital purchase by the way!!

I use the drive to backup television and movie projects in fcp. The drive handles full HD footage okay, and has a good amount of space for the price. Good price, though I would go with the 3 tb my studio with the firewire 800 to edit with. I would recommend this drive for anyone wanting to backup a large amount of HD footage and projects.
