This is a no frills (no on button) 2TB external hard drive. It comes PC formatted (I reformatted for my Mac), aside from that, pretty much plug and play. It’s compact, simple, and at about 4.25 cents/gigabyte, it’s a great price.

this is our third 2TB Western Digital elements drive like this. Picked this last one up on B&H’s black Friday sale I believe. If all you need is USB 2.0 and lots of storage, then this will suit you. As to the longevity of it I can’t comment because we do not run ours that much, it’s pretty much back up storage- just on when we need it. This is why only 4 stars…

I’m using this as active storage and will eventually transition to archive once it fills up. Performance is adequate to watch encoded 4K content. At $15/GB I can’t complain. In my experience WD drives have been more reliable than other brands, but I’m brand agnostic and would buy whatever hit the sub $15/GB price point since I don’t really care much about data stored on it.

Storing system backups and photos from three other computers on the same home network. Easy to set up and use. Runs very cool without a fan. Similiar to the unit plugged into my TiVo. Excellant value.

Great drive. Have had no problems with it. The drive does not come with backup software which is why I got it. I already have a drive with BU software that copies my PC for me. I got this to backup my backup. (Yes I’m Paranoid)& didn’t need that. This also doesn’t have Bells or Whistles like some drives, it just gets down to business.

I got this for back up my pictures. It is running very smooth and quit. Love it!

I use this product to store my photos. The drive is fast and secure. This is my second purchase.

I gave it 4 stars assuming it’s as good as the other WD hardrives I own. I love the fact that has so much storage (2TB for less than $100!) I decided to return it since it’s a little too bulky for me and I’d rather have portable WD 1TB for my purposes. Assuming this one will sit on your desk most of the time -you can’t go wrong with it

I had some concerns about this drive after reading some negative reviews. I have not experienced vibrations or any other issues. It is a nice quiet drive. One small issue is this drive is rated at 8 TB but you really only get about 7.5 TB of usable space. I am using this drive to store photos and I bought the identical 8 TB drive to be the backup for the photo drive.

Grear storage space and great design

I had to reformat this drive to Fat32 to be compatible with my A/V Receiver. It wasn’t a problem after I downloaded ‘Swisnife’. The drive works perfectly so far. Very quiet. I don’t like the flashing light when it’s in standby.

Big and slow. One drive I got makes weird and loud noises. Hopefully isn’t serious.

I’m a semi-professional freelance photographer and have recently upgraded to a body that takes much higher-res images so I needed some more storage. I wanted something large in memory but not a server or anything of the likes. I also didn’t want to pay through the nose for silly features I didnt need (auto back up – LCD screen etc)This was the perfect solution, 2TB space (totals to about 1.81 TB). It’s sleek, fits nicely on my desk (I dont need to lug it around, so it stays there plugged in most of the time). I like that it only turns on when plugged into a computer, so its not always eating power. The ONLY reason I dont give it 5 stars is because I had to figure out how to re-format it for MAC(since its originally formatted for PC) and for the lack of power switch (which would put my mind at greater ease, keeping it plugged in a lot)….

I have the 12 TB version. Seems to transfer average Gb size files between 130 Mb/s and 150Mb/s. It is no where near the 5 Gb/s advertised. Don’t know how reliable it is since I’ve only had it for 1 day. If it fails and I’m allowed to edit my review, I will do so.

I use this drive exclusively as a backup device for a PC laptop. It is very quiet, dependable, and I like the fact that it sleeps when not in use. Can’t say I have had any problems with it. It was definitely plug-and-play.

I purchased this drive to back up photos from my Mac.. I have always had good luck with Western Digital hard drives.

I got this drive at a great deal!!! Use it to back-up personal files and some project files too, it’s so easy to use just plug it in and your PC will recognize it. The only cons of this product is that WD gives a trial of its cloud back-up software just for one month, looks like there was a problem in packaging, it had a tiny scratch 🙁 Despite this tiny scratch and software issue, Works as expected!!!

Not long ago, buying a 4-TB WD hard drive for under $80 was inconceivable. I haven’t owned this one long enough to review it, but if it’s like the WD hard drives I’ve had in the past, it has to be excellent. They last a lot longer than other brands, some which have been extremely disappointing. The one I replaced it with was a highly-rate brand, and it lasted maybe two years. I have another WD I use as a backup for my Mac, and I’ve had it at least half a dozen years and it’s still going strong.
