Use this to store mixed media. Lots of space Reliable – I have several WD Elements and still doing fine after many years of usage …

What can I say? It worked when plugged in, and blazed away at USB 3 speeds. Using it for picture backups.

Simple plug and play. No software available, but windows back up manager works flawlessly with it. Wish it had on/off switch, but nothing else to complain about

Great price for lots of memory. Had mine for less than a month now and so far so good. No complaints!

Use the WD elements for local backup. It has lots of space, inexpensive and looks elegant on my desk. It is light on software, which is acceptable at this price point. USB3 gets the job done without much waiting. I will purchase again if more storage is needed.

Bought this as my 3rd WD external drive. The first two were the older models that laid flat and did not have the air vents in the case. This one is very loud in comparison to those – the fan is always blowing and I can hear the disk spinning every time I access it. My older drives are completely silent. It functions just fine – plenty of storage at a great price and no trouble accessing the files.

This WD 16TB Elements is very easy to format for MAC OS and has a very quick data transfer speed. I am using it for a week and everything seems to be ok.

I am using this hdd to back up movies and pictures on to. Good storage size for what you spend on it.

I opened the box, took out the drive, plugged it into the back of my CPU, in one of the 3.0 slots, turned it on, and it was running by the time I managed to squirm out from under my desk. Works great. Copies files fast. Quiet. No problems.

No issues. Works as it should. I like the external power supply. It would be difficult to use as a portable drive because of that, but it doesn’t put a drain on the computer. Heavy and looks to be built well.

Bought this on 12/10/10, a 2tb model. Used it as a backup for my iTunes library which has grown to over 1tb with all my movies, tv shows and music. I bought two of them, one as a primary drive, one as a backup drive for the data. On 12/14/11, the backup drive began failing. Input/Output errors out the whazoo. I contacted WD, got told it only has a one year warranty, thanks for playing, have a nice day! I expect my hard drives to last more than a year and a couple days. I had great experience with BH here, they are a reputable company, WD on the other hand is becoming a buyer beware, make sure you read the fine print company for sure. So now I have 2 of these things in the bottom of my trash can after copying the data to a couple new other manufactured drives. I don’t trust the one that is still working to last much longer anyway.

The Western Digital 4TB external drive, for me, was an excellent investment. WD’s quality shows up again. I use these drives as backup for my digital negatives only and they are excellent performers. A bit bulky but one stays on the desk top ready to be plugged in when working with photos and the other acts as it’s backup. Reasonalby fast on data transfer. Well worth the price for solid backup performance.

I have about 15 of these. Very reliable, I use them to back up my second copy of completed weddings. http://www.kolodnyphoto.com

The first drive had the case so misaligned that neither the usb or power cable could plug in. The replacement drive was ok and worked out of the box. The build quality of the first one makes me a little nervous. I hope it holds up as I will need another 18tb drive soon and the price is right for the WD Elements.

I got 2 – 14tb units and cleaned up a lot of disparate storage across multiple smaller devices, with loads of room to spare. That will keep me happy for a few years, until I need some 28tb units.

Great price. Good performance. Not too much noisy. It works really well so far. FYI, it includes a WD White label hard.

I’ve bought a few of this Elements model over some years now and it’s still the only external drive I would recommend over any other external drive. This hard drive is already pre-format in NTFS for Windows. No build-in software. This 3.5 drive is quite small comparing to others which are bulky and unattractive. Though this might not be portable but it is easy to stored. There isn’t any fan inside this drive but it doesn’t get hot just warm. A few years ago I would always rate this a 5 star drive, but now I can only give it a 4 star just because there isn’t a USB 3.0 for the 3.5 Elements model and the price and storage size are about the same as other USB 3.0 brand and model if you shop around. It would be nice to be able to choose quality and speed instead of quality over speed. USB 3.0 should be standard by now for all external hard drive. All 3.5 external hard drive required a bulky power cord and shouldn’t consider as a con.

Recently backed up DVD collection. Drive is quiet and performance meets expectations. USB 2.0 isn’t the fastest transfer available but it is fast enough to play back video and back up files.

nico en capacidad y rendimiento. Este disco es especial para almacenar, no para trabajar en l. Son muy duraderos y finos.

I bought 5 of these. I have many more smaller ones here and there and they are a few years to a year old. I reformatted these 12TB each as NTFS to get rid of anything and then hooked them up to a 7 port Hub I also bought at the same time. I then created Win 10 Pro Storage Spaces. I hooked up the Hub to a brand new 10th Gen HP Envy and transferred an older 8TB WD Elements content that was full to the new Storage Spaces drive array which is now 54TB! Worked great. Until a reboot. Windows didn’t restart. OK, took USB boot off the UEFI BIOS boot list. Tried again. No luck. Now HP says its WD and WD says they do not support USB HUBS! So now I have a brand new setup for data on a new Laptop I can never reboot remotely. I could send the laptop back to see if the BIOS board is bad or return the drives and hub. I’m gonna keep the drives. GREAT JOB WD, GREAT JOB HP. btw these drives are great – they are just prone to fail after a couple years. I purchased the extra warranty with B&H and will wait for WD and HP to get their affairs in order, since I need a new Laptop Mfr. now I guess. B&H is fast and I am sure my new laptop will be as well with B&H.
