Purchased to use as a Time Machine back-up for a Mac. Had to reformat it, but afterward, it worked perfectly. The case is elegantly minimal, the drive virtually silent. Don’t think the performance would quite be up to a working drive, but you couldn’t do better for an economical back up system.

I use this product for storing pictures in the raw form from my model that I photograph. It is fast reliable and can go anywhere I need it to. Thanks

I use this external drive for backup only and it serves my purpose well.

This drive works perfectly. It is silent, does not get hot in use and perfect for video transfer. I use this drive primarily as a back up for the digital copies of all of my DVD’s and I watch them on the PS3 directly from the drive with no complaints.

I now have 3 of them now

I have a few of these and never had a problem with any of them.

I got myself this external while on sale and it was actually cheaper than an internal harddisk. Finally I was surprised that the average transfer speed is around 150mb/s enough to edit small videos 😉

This HDD has been so far almost perfect. My only complaint is that the drive it automatically powered every time I boot my computer. It would’ve been nice if it remembered its powered off state. This issue effectively renders the power button almost useless. My OS is Fedora Linux but I highly doubt that the OS has anything to do with this.

I have been using WD external and internal hard drives for may years with no failures. I am using this drive for entertainment storage, movies etc. Transfer rates are a little slow around 15 mb per second using the 2.0 usb

Seems to work as expected. It’s 16TB.

Using for various backups. Very very quiet. Transfer speed is pretty good.

Use for image backups of family computers. Works like a charm.

Noisy, clicking all the time..even when I’m not accessing it (is it communicating with the Cloud?). Sounds like the R/W heads are too close to the disk…

Works well. Easy to reformat for Mac. I decided to encrypt, which may explain why it took 24 hours to complete 2 TB initial data transfer. After that, it copies files quickly and quietly.

Simply plug in the power cord, connect to the computer via the supplied USB cord and start copying files. It’s just that simple. I copied more than 1TB of photo files, numerous videos (including the movie Princess Bride) and and an iTunes library with more than 30,000 songs, along with a variety of other desktop files. The WD 12TB Elements is now only about 1/4 full. It’s perfect for large file storage. I also have a WD 5TB Passport hard drive as a secondary back-up for photos and music. I take the Passport with me when travelling to upload my photos.

I use the western digital elements hard drives to store my wildlife photography on!
