Needed space for media center. Works great, no issues.

Moving away from 4 distinct portable drives and all the cabling. This drive provided enough space for 4 partition for video storage, audio and photos, documents and client data. What a joy to be able to organize such space on a single drive.

I bought this as a back-up and it works great! It saved me right when I needed it! No complaints.

I am a prof photog and I rely ONLY on Western Digital drives. I have a 2tb (FW800) drive for my main photo storage, and 2 of these drives for backup–one to mirror the FW drive, the other to auto backup both my quad-core i7 iMac and MacBook Pro — works like a champ! Super quiet, reliable, and always ready to spin up when needed for time machine. You won’t regret this drive–best bang for the buck today.

Use WD Elements as main drive for active projects-allows sharing between rigs. Have been fast, without failure, over many years of usage. When project is finished I archive full project & files on WD for future access. Have used many capacities for years with complete confidence & satisfaction. Recommend highly for added capacity & as backup or archive. As always props to B&H for service & value-my go to co.

Over the years I’ve used several brands of external hard drives for mostly photo back up. The WD has always been more reliable. as a matter of fact I’ve never had a WD hard drive fail. I just bought this 3tb to replace another brand that failed after a year which I paid a lot more for. I keep a bank of three on hand and switch them out and all of that paranoid stuff. The price at B&H was more than competitive so how could I not resist buying something more reliable at a cheaper price. The download speed seems the same as the unit that it replaced. I use this on a mac which only takes minutes to reformat.

Good backup for your videos or photos. I use this as my secondary backup for my photos.

I use this drive only for manual backups and for this purpose it works well and I recommend it. The main drawback is that it is a little slow to wake up but for my use this doesn’t matter. If you want to edit directly from this drive this issue may be a concern.

Best for use to backup Windows, big multimedia files

Using it as an archiving drive and it’s fast & quiet.

Got this beast during black friday/cyber monday 2014, it was a good deal so I had to blow some mula on this! Usage: My custom built pc was running out of space, I have 1 TB HDD and a small SSD for loading windows and basic softwares that I need up and running quick. So I was running out of space for storage on my main 1 TB HDD, so i was in the market to buy something but still had time to shop and research. This beast now sits on my desk and it performs like a charm. I do some photography and graphic design work and this performs up to par with what I need. Plug it into a USB 3.0 and it’s blazing fast! If you work on both Windows and Mac platform, make sure to format to FAT before using it on both platforms or else you’d thank me later.

I’ve always used Lacie drives, and say what you will about them –but I’ve never had an issue. This drive is failing after only a year of use.
Felicia Kris (verified owner) –
I’ve not had this long, but it’s working like a champ!

Handles large video files well

This is a heavy, solid piece of equipment. It feels like a rock…no flimsy sides or rattling here! Plugged in and was instantly recognized by my IMac. Formatted for Time Machine. Works perfectly. Silent operation.
