Really like this external desktop hard drive from Western Digital’s ‘Element’ series. Price was great too! Great capacity with great speed: 3 TB, provided with USB 3.0 connection (i.e. SuperSpeed USB or SS USB). USB 3.0 means QUICK COPYING! Easy to use (Plug-N-Play): attached it with USB cable (included) & computer recognized it right away. Both included: USB cable & AC Power adapter. Drive was already formatted (for Windows), so it was usable right away – no need to format. New folders could be created whenever needed. Note: If neatness is desired, the Western Digital software files, found sitting on the drive, can themselves be moved to their own newly created folder. This drive is QUIET! No noise problems here. There is an on/off switch on the back, which is handy, allowing you to control when you want to actually use the drive! Also, doesn’t light up too much, just a basic light when it’s running. The minimal-light design is appreciated! Sleek appearance, without being too large! The drive is all black with glossy sides. Basically squarish shape with nicely curved corners. The subtly angled grating accomplishes heat dissipation with good looks! Finally, pleasantly surprised with the fast delivery – took just a couple of days to arrive.

Plugged it in. Formatted. Spent a little time loading it up. 2.0 write speeds around 30 mbps. 3.0 write speeds around 110, for me. Attached to wireless router. Visible to my home network. Just what i wanted.

I bought this as a backup drive for a new iMac, and the story with it is that there is no story – I plugged it in and it worked. A plain, quiet black box that does what I need it to do, and the cost was reasonable. I’d give it 5 stars if it had a power/activity light.

I bought this product after losing a bunch of pictures for the second time! I’ve only had this product for a month but it was very easy to set-up and use. It has plenty of space to save all of my files, pictures and music. It’s also very quiet and doesn’t take up much space.

It’s doing a great job so far. I’ve only had it for a few months now. It’s not the fastest drive out there but I use it for mass backup storage of my photos so transfer speed is not something I was looking for. The only thing I hated was that it didn’t come with instructions on how to format it for use on Mac. You’ll have to Google for that process. All in all, does what it’s made for, and that’s all I asked for.

I use 8TB Glyph drives for primary video editing but use these to back up the Glyphs. Works fine.

Everything i wanted in a 2 TB external hard drive as i put all my media on it. no useless back-up software, easy to format and no hassles. i wish the USB cord was longer and it had a power switch but the quality i’ve come to appreciate from Western Digital far outweighs all that. 5 stars all day long.

I’ve got quite a few people using this drive as a backup drive for nightly backups. The Drive works great, the price was good AND the time between ordering and receiving the drive was GREAT, Thanks for the fast service, ‘I’ll be back’

Cheaper than WD My Book, this WD Elements has less bloatware, too. Good option for data storage. Main drawback is it needs its own power supply and is not as easily transportable as WD My Passport, for instance.

Snappy, slick design, shipping was quick. Everything I could have asked for at the best price possible, I’m doing all my tech shopping on B&H from now on!

May have been our older MAC but took a while to format for Apple files. After that it works great. Great price but probably will consider faster USB3 or 1394b interface device in future.

The crappy warranty is why I gave this drive 4 stars and not 5 stars. The drive is fast, for both sequential reads and writes of large files (which is how I am using the drive). It will exceed 250 MB/s, if your USB port supports that speed, and if you are feeding it from a storage devices that can send/receive at that speed. I have not tested it for reading and/or writing countless small files. I doubt that it would come close to the speeds noted above. Also, the speeds that I noted above were based on the drive not being asked to do anything else. If you have more than one write or one read operation being asked of the drive, it will not multitask at the speed of an SSD. This drive will probably slow down to a of its speed, if asked to write two large files, simultaneously. So for doing backups, and simply saving important data, for simple data storage purposes, this drive is great. For all-around performance, look elsewhere. With a 1-year warranty, Western Digital does not have much faith in their drive holding up under the long haul. Lastly, this drive has an activity light on the front, near the bottom. When it is steadily lit, it has both a data and power connection. When it is blinking, then the drive is busy (reading or writing data). The light is easy to see, but it is not bright. Cheers!

I own a few of the Western Digital Hard Drives and decided to purchase this 3TB Hard Drive. It works just as well as the 2TB. A great value for the product.
