I bought this for my Linux desktop and it works great. Only complaint is that Linux doesn’t work well with safely eject feature of os, just have to reboot.

I’ve purchased the Elements 4 TB drive for use as a Time Machine backup drive. I had no problems setting it up, although WD ships this drive formatted for Windows, with some of their proprietary software installed. I, of course, reformatted the drive for use with my mid-2010 iMac and that wiped the WD software, which was no problem, as I never use that software. So far, the WD Elements is performing flawlessly. Ordinarily, I’d have purchased another of WD’s My Book line, of which I have three in use, but the pre-Christmas sale price on the Elements drive was too good to pass up.

I’m using this as a server for all my photos, documents and itunes library from my airport extreme base station. This is accessible from every computer in my home on our network.

External drive for video files. Accesses fast and has been reliable. Easy to configure for mac use.

I use as a back up drive. It’s fast. The only reason I gave it four stars is that I wished it had a metal shell. I would recommend it to a friend. BTW. Placed the other late in the day, last week before Christmas, and I still got it next day. BH’s shipping department was great in handling all my Christmas orders and expediting them. Kudos to them.

Too slow to work (even though it professes USB3 speeds) from but cheap and wonderful for backup. No Complaints yet.

Works well, easy to hook up. Just as advertised.

The fact that there is very little to say about this external drive is thing one of what’s good about it. It arrived, I connected it and it was good to go. I’ll use it for backing up. It’s a ton of storage for the price; that’s thing two of what’s good about it.

This is a cheap way for me to augment server storage for data which is seldom-accessed but needs to be available 24-7. I bought a couple and copied one to the other for redundancy. I’ve been using WD external drives for years and they are dependable and a decent value considering how much storage capacity they deliver. I have yet to see one crash or malfunction.

Use it to hold photographs from games I cover.

Got this at a great price for extra added backup. East to use and re-formated for my mac.

A little slower than my last HD, But Nice and quite. Size is a little bigger also, The nice feature is it stays cool when I was downloading 1200+Movies straight thru it’s operation…. I would give it a 5 Star except for it’s size…Overall a very good Unit…JS

This is my first sata external drive, and what a difference it makes in transferring data. I’m using this drive with W-7 and XP pro SP3, both had no problem recognizing and running in only seconds out of the box. I use the drive to primarily to download my personal Blu-ray movies so as not to use a player. The capacity can hold 40 or greater movies depending on size of movie content. A power switch would be optimal for several drives, but that is the only drawback for my purposes.

External drive appears to work as advertised – would love to own the WD product with a much higher TB – but you cannot complain with the merchants’ great deal and value for this product – Thanks B&H

This thing is so big, 8T. Small on the desktop.
