I use this product to back up content, including a lot of photo RAW files. It has to be formatted for Mac (OS X Yosemite) but that was easy with the Mac Disk Utility. I have set up multiple partitions. So far so good. Flawless performance with Time Machine, Aperture Vault, and manual backup. I also do music recording and appreciate that it is very quiet. Appears to be well made. Will consider the 5th star if it holds up over time.

Wow-what a deal for this 18TB for $339 wish I would have purchased more. Easy to reformat to mac and now have a off-site backup of my work.

There is no light indicating if the disk drive running or not. An on/off switch should also be added since unplugging the cord is only means to disconnect the power.

If you need a thing that does the thing, then this is your thing. It’s not flashy or fast or particularly durable (seeming). But it’s an affordable drive that mounts and holds lots of data. I’m not sure how well I would trust keeping incredibly important footage on here long term or cutting off of it, but it’s great for temporarily transferring footage to a client or being a redundant system. I’ve used other sizes for years and been fine with them.

Picked this up in October 2021 for a great deal! Drive works well.

I probably own more of these drives than anyone, maybe 2 dozen of this model and 2 dozen of the other Western Digital more box like version. They rarely break unless you drop them on cement, and even then they are 50/50. I sometimes even put these in my backpack and take them back and forth to the studio when I haven’t backed up with a portable drive. A zero problems over years. I did speak with Western Digital at the photo expo and they do recommend they G-Tech series for even more durable drives for hardcore pros where the drives are in constant use for years, as those have some stronger components. But of course they believe in all their drives. I like the less expensive drives as they work great and have a great price.

Product was easy to connect to my computer and the speed is over three times that of my previous USB 2 drive. This saves a lot of time when copying large photo files. My only complaint is that the spin up time is a bit long.

1st purchase from B&H and am very pleased with product … Am backing up failing drives on one desktop and one laptop. Plugged in and went to work. So far works with xp, Vista and Win7, no glitches.

No frills, honest quality, performance and value. Runs cool runing 24/7, Great Capacity, plays back all my movies without any problems. Quiet and sleek in design. Goes in sleep mode when not being used and wakes up with just a move of the mouse. I dropped it twice on a Hardwood floor three feet down due to a mispaced cable dangling in front of my desk, no damage whatsoever. I’ll buy another, The capacity and performance, speed and ease of use at this price, for one, is value enough, for two it becomes a downright bargain. for me it does all I need, plays back movies while downloading large files to it, all without missing a beat. Plug in the USB, plug in the power adaptor and off you go. No fuss, no bother, just runs as soon as you plug in the USB and Power cables. The adaptor is a plus, no worries about low juice from my laptop.

The WD 4TB Elements HDD works well so far as a replacement of the 2TB HDD sitting in a USB3 dock. It’s quiet with good I/O speed via USB3.

With my growing photo library I needed to have a backup drive for just my photos. After doing some research, I chose this WD 4TB external drive. I have it for three weeks now with no problems. Easy to setup, cost effective and reputation of WD products. This is not the first WD drive I have purchased over the years, never had a problem with any of them.

I use this hard drive for photo and video storage. It is stable and has a reasonable price. There really isn’t anything I dislike.

good quality and good price drive, well made and durable. just keep in mind the usage space is only 10.9tb vs advertised 12tb so if you are looking for actual 12tb, get the 16tb model.

I bought this drive for my photos and it sits by my IMac, works nicely!

Took me minutes to set up and use with time machine. The only down side is it is USB. But no complaints for the price and size that this holds.

Just what you need to back up your SAN and at an affordable price. While a NAS pretty much requires the more expensive drive because ti s on 24/7 the attached back up drives do not. I back up a couple times a week and this drive goes int a sleep mode in-between so i am not worried about it’s longevity in the system. It should be excellent.

I am using this as a backup for digital photos and lightroom catalogs. So far, so good. USB 3.0 interface is much much faster than USB 2.0. It is large on your desk, but I am happy to have the sturdy outside case for protection.

A ten gig HD for under $200 ? WHAT? YES! WD, what else do you need to know? I’d say pay attention to deal zone!

I’ve owned a few of these WD Elements and they’ve always done a fine job. They’re quiet, pretty quick and sleep when they are supposed to. No regrets on this drive.
