It’s very fast, with USB 3.0. I have been using it for only 5 days, so I don’t know if it will remain that way…
Marion Gerhold (verified owner) –
performing as advertised. A very good value.
Richmond Spinka (verified owner) –
I bought it for storage and backup Good transfer speed (60-80MB’s – USB3) and quiet Very good value
Cordie Hoeger (verified owner) –
No bells and whistles in this one, just good ‘old extra storage. Can be used to manually back up files or for additional room for large files. Works great.
Newton Sipes (verified owner) –
It’s great. I use it to backup my film work and while it’s probably not the best drive to do so, it was super cheap for its capacity and works well with all of my devices.I did have to format it so it works with both my Mac and my Windows PC but it was a small inconvenience, although I can see how it can be troublesome to some.

Used for backing up videos abd data. Has workded as advertised for the two weeks that I’ve had it. Hope it works for years as my last WD drive.
Myrl Greenholt (verified owner) –
I use this for my Time Machine backup for my Mac. It was easy to format for the Mac, and has not had any issues at all.
Calista Schmidt (verified owner) –
Everything seems to be working good here and easy set up

This black box has an indicator light that tells you it is powered up and in use. When the computer is turned off, or when the USB cable is disconnected, the power supply seems to shut down. Nice. The power supply feels cold when USB is disconnected or computer is off. I think this must be a smart power supply with a power saving shutoff switch inside. I’ve never seen one like this before.

I use it as a back up for my home computer I bought it to replace my old western digital 650 gb hard drive. It was easy to set up and use.

Used to backup laptop and desktop computers. Sleeping better at night.

Good size, speed, weight and price.

Inside was a WD Green drive, which suits me fine. For the price, I can’t complain.
Harold Nienow (verified owner) –
I ordered this condense several smaller ones and put a lot of data in one organized place. So far it is working fine. It is much cheaper than buying a full tower or server. It is a little slower than I would have liked, taking about an hour and a half to copy a little over 300 gb of data yesterday, but definitely able to be worked with.
Jarret Goyette (verified owner) –
High capacity, quiet, sleek design, reputable manufacturer. The perfect external HD. I bought this unit to handle some overflow until I could rebuild my server. It has performed flawlessly. If I needed another external drive, I would look no futher.
Jalyn Haley (verified owner) –
Good deal when on sale. I have had mostly good luck with WD Elements. Really hate Micro-B connectors though. Also, this time the included AC adapter is shaped in a obtrusive angle (relative to my power strip).
Aaron Steuber (verified owner) –
I don’t use it very often. I back up my photos to this drive every month. Great capacity and quality.

After the first drive I ordered died in less that two weeks, I returned that drive and bought the 3TB Elements External Desktop Hard Disk Drive by WD. I have a Mac and the included USB 3.0 to 2.0 cable was perfect. Hooked it up, powered it on and reformatted it for the Mac. Partitioned it into a 1 and 2 TB and I’m using the 1TB for a Time Machine back up drive. The 2TB is being used for duplicate storage and a staging area for archiving data to DVD’s. Best thing about it is that it’s dead quiet. Barely can hear it running. Transfer speeds are fast and I’m getting spoiled by the 2TB of space.
