Preformatted NTFS for systems running Windows 10, 8.1, or 7, the 14TB Elements Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD provides users with up to 14TB of add-on storage for their photos, videos, music, documents, and other files. It features a 5 Gb/s micro-USB 3.0 interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, and is compatible with 480 Mb/s USB 2.0. It is powered using an 100-240 VAC power adapter, is formatted NTFS for Windows, and includes a USB cable.

I’ve used many a WD external hard drives for archival storage of video files. I’ve had drives from other manufacturers fail over time, but, knock on wood, all my WD drives keep chugging along. The transfer speed with the USB 3.0 is good — it’s not firewire, but it’s adequate for its purpose. If you can get this drive on sale, it has a great price to performance ratio.

I’ve been using it for 3 weeks, and I have no complaints so far. Works great with Mac’s Time Machine after a quick reformatting. Relatively quiet too. A side note: WD’s warranty registration is finicky, you would have to use Chrome or Edge for the process to work.

easy to install, but not working with my older powerpc computer. i’m sure the operating systems that it works with were listed, i just assumed there wouldn’t be a problem. so if you have an older computer, be sure to check if it will work.

This was a mistake. Yes I wanted a 12TB HDD but for another $6 each, I could have had the better drives with a 3 year warranty instead of 2 years. I thought this was it but I just goofed.
