The My Cloud EX4100 is a high performance and high capacity NAS server for SOHO and home users that is well suited for centralizing media and files in one location, accessing and sharing photos, videos, and files from virtually anywhere with computers, smartphones, and tablets, HD media streaming to Smart TV’s, gaming consoles, and media players, comprehensive backup solutions, and more. It features upload speeds of up to 115 MB/s and download speeds of up to 107 MB/s.
The My Cloud EX4100 is pre-configured for a user-friendly setup and system management. It also has an intuitive dashboard that helps guide you through the process of setting up users and shares, as well as customizing system features and monitoring storage. It also features a toolless and trayless drive bay design and drive installation, helping to simplify the hot swap process.
This NAS is powered by a 1.6 GHz Marvell ARMADA 388 Dual-Core processor, which will allow you to run multiple functions simultaneously. The built-in 2GB of DDR3 RAM will allow quick access to frequently-used files and programs, and network connectivity is achieved via the 2 x Gigabit Ethernet ports. Having 2 x Gigabit Ethernet ports not only provides network redundancy in the event that one port fails, but it also provides link aggregation to help enhance network performance and provide an enhanced HD media streaming experience. This NAS also has 3 x USB 3.0 ports.
The My Cloud EX4100 features four SATA drive bays that can accommodate the included 4 x 6TB 3.5″ WD Red drives. The included WD Red drives are built with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface and 5400 rpm rotational speed. They are also designed for 24/7 NAS environments and use NASware technology. NASware technology helps to further optimize WD Red drives for the NAS environment in respect to factors such as vibration compensation, optimized power usage, and data protection in the case of a power loss or disruption.
This WD NAS also features AES 256-bit encryption that helps provide additional protection for your data, and RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, JBOD, and spanning can be used to configure various levels of data performance or redundancy. As this NAS features a built-in processor, this means that should a user wish to take advantage of the RAID functionality, the RAID controller is integrated into the NAS and thus RAID functionality will be controlled by the NAS and its hardware, instead of being controlled by software.
The My Cloud EX4100 operates on 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz and includes an Ethernet cable and a power cord. It is compatible with Windows 8.1, 8, 7, and Vista, as well as macOS Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion.
Note: The My Cloud EX4100 includes a complimentary 2-month membership to the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan, which includes Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC, 20GB of cloud storage, and more. I had a couple of old NAS WD systems as local backup devices. They were getting out of date, and I would lose ability to remotely access my data. This unit updated the software and will continue to allow remote access. The other nice point is that I was able to pull my RAID 1 sets and move them directly into this enclosure. The replaced units were both running WD Red drives, and everything worked the first type I powered it up. All I needed to do was remap the remote drives and I was fone.

I received my EX4100 very fast. I unpacked and when I was initializing, I had a “bad” drive right off the bat. Called tech support and they were great! Got me up and running within minutes and assisted me in finalizing my setup. So far everything has worked perfectly. It is very fast and I love the fact I can access all my files from anywhere through the internet. Couldn’t be happier. Highly recommend!

A More Powerful NAS. I had a 2 bay 12 TB WD and one of the storage bays heated up and faulted. So I purchased the EX 4100.

I purchased this because a family member had over 30,000 pictures and videos on her iphone. These are backed up in icloud, however, they cannot be deleted from her phone without being deleted from icloud. We did the Google Photos thing as well. The problem with all these cloud services is that we are dependent on the providers to maintain services and keep our pictures private. They cannot guarantee either of those. It took some time for the My Cloud Expert Series EX4100 to back up her phone because of our home internet speed and the fact that there were over 30,000 files to upload. We have successfully uploaded all those photos and videos. It was a quick and easy install as well. Anyone with just a little tech savvy can do this. We are so excited now. All her photos and videos are safe and secure in a place that we manage. We are now in the process of uploading digital photos and videos from previous phones and devices. We are able to access the photos and videos from anywhere. We can also disconnect our pictures from the web at any time. This product has brought peace of mind to my home.
