I have yet to use this one but I very much like these for backup files and system work. Save SSD for processing.

Reliable drive at a great price!

Happy, what I expected.. Fast recognized from my lap-top. Simple formatting. Didn’t used it’s application – No need of this. Smaller dimension than previous WD Passport 4TB, that I bought five years ago for almost same price. Thanks, I’ll buy again when I filled this 🙂

I have only had it for a few days, so the main thing I can say is it works. Other than that, here is what CrystalDiskInfo says about it: Inside the enclosure is the WDC WD50NDZW 5000.9 GB drive. The interface is USB (Serial ATA). The transfer mode is SATA 600. The standard it follows is ACS-3 Revision 5. It features S.M.A.R.T., APM, NCQ, TRIM. And its rotation rate is 5400 RPM. Beyond that, it is in an elegant black enclosure, is USB powered, very quiet, and its temperature is is 36C after about 12 hours being hooked up to the computer so far today.

I’m very pleased with its performance. So easy to use and fast back up using the Time Machine App. Care-free compatibility with my new Mac OS Catalina desk top.

A fine drive to carry around. I found these are great drives to use in a pinch and don’t take up too much of my dwindling desk space.

I’m using this to backup video files and images. I’m a professional designer who uses a ton of equipment. This one was a slam dunk as far as usability, size, performance and convenience. Some software needed to be installed for it t pop up – but that is pretty typical. I’m using it with a laptop (macbook 13) and a desktop computer.

I have purchased several of these external hard drives. They are great because they don’t need a separate power source; they get power from the computer they are plugged into. Just plug them in and transfer all your data, photos, and videos directly to the WD My Passport. Great for a backup of all your files.

Had to search for a How to to get this HD talking to my MacBook. Works fine once the drive was reformatted.

Small did the job with no problem. Simply plug and play. Easy.

I have been replacing ( and up sizing ) all my Seagate hard drives because I have been having problems with them. WD seems to hold up better over time. Two more to replace soon.
Charles Purdy (verified owner) –
Its a good drive if you are not looking for performance. I bought the drive specifically for mailing it with data and speed was not a big concern for me so I am happy. I certainly would not recommend it as photo storage or any other media storage with regular access.
Hayley Hessel (verified owner) –
My backup are now 5 times as fast as with my old firewire external.
Cornell Jast (verified owner) –
Good price. Great for my backups. Plenty of storage. Relatively fast data transfers. Nice size for transport. Would like a 7200 RPM drive.
Aisha Christiansen (verified owner) –
This is an amazing hard drive. It’s so easy to set up and use and its pretty fast.
Katherine Orn (verified owner) –
I plugged them in and mirrored my two internal 4TB 7200 rpm drives. Both worked flawlessly.
Chance Shields (verified owner) –
It’s small, as beautiful as discrete and with 2Tb!
Rusty Sauer (verified owner) –
This hard drive connected to my IMac (Catalina) without a hitch. It has been performing flawlessly as a Time Machine backup ever since.
Destin Zboncak (verified owner) –
Easy to use, reasonably priced. Considered an SSD but this drive meets my needs for backup with considerably less cost

I’ve been using WD External dives for some time never a problem. Need this for my old iPhotos/Photos so they would be off my laptop hard drive. Easy to format for my mac, helps also.
