Crashed after 4 months of use.

This is a great drive for either exchanging files between companies or for long term local storage. Would absolutely buy it again and again. Ships very easily to vendors.

I’ve had it for a few weeks, no issues or complaints, great price for what you get

I am not computer savvy and am grateful that it was so easy to install and begin backing up. Id had an older one for 6 or 7 years that did the job, and finally died. Its death may have had to do with a sketchy port on my computer and Ill be getting a new computer soon. This passport does something else w/ cloud backup that I dont understand. One of these days Ill call WD to ask about it.

Worked perfectly for me when I needed to backup everything before installing a new operating system on my Mac.

During this past year I have purchased 6 of these drives, as I have previously found them to function properly. Of those 6, only 2 have functioned properly. Of the last 2 purchased, one crashed the computer immediately when I tried to download images. The second one appeared to function properly for 4 days of image downloads, and on the 5th day none of the files could be seen or accessed. I was on a wilderness trip to remote Alaska to photograph Grizzly bears and was now without any means to download my images. Now that I am back home, I hope those images on the second drive can be recovered. It seems these external hard drives are now being poorly made and without adequate quality control. My recommendation is DO NOT BUY the WD Passport.

I haven’t usb 3.0 on my computer so I didn’t test it in high speed condition but I transfered a lot of data in one time and the transfert time wasn’t so bad. I appreciate the compact form, It’s really small for a 2TB! And it light too. I just regret that the wire isn’t integrate in the case like on some LaCie HDD (but the description on the product page is clear on this point 🙂 ).

I was in a crunch & this was the only drive big enough at Best Buy that I could buy. Worst mistake ever. Bought the drive during the day, transferred everything, that night it started slowing down with the transfer rate, then the next night it bricked. This is supposedly a very common thing with these cheap drives. Many who don’t complain say they have more than 2 more to back up on. Which seems ludacris to me. I would rather spend a lot on a very reliable SSD, instead of buying 4 or more of the same cheap drive that is gonna brick over time. Don’t make my mistake if you’re a videographer working with 4k quality and up files.

I own several WD Passports. They are all reliable and speedy.

I ordered for my son a WD 2TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive (2019, Sky). I received it, he is using it and he is very happy with it. I have ordered many items from B&H and I have never been disappointed. Finding and ordering products from B&H is easy and delivery is quick. B&H is a great store.

the WD 5TB Passport USB is small, light, durable, reliable, and fast. Not to mention an unbeatable price at B&H.

I grabbed this with my new MacBook w/retina display so I could fit my iTunes on the computer. It’s plenty fast with the USB 3.0 and it make no noise. Also since it comes prepped for MAc it carries none of the space wasting extra software of a PC portable drive.

I love having this 4TB drive in a compact size, and it’s definitely my favorite external hard drive so far, writes quickly, and is super reliable. Only thing that I’ve noticed is that it sometimes buzzes against my desk, but if I move it that sound goes away. It definitely is quiet, but if your perception is attuned to it, you might hear it, there is also a slight vibration when you touch it, so that’s probably why it buzzes occasionally when it’s not flush to the surface of the desk.

This drive is very handy for backing up files. It’s a good value for the storage size. For a 5600 RPM portable drive, it’s also fairly fast, and a noticeable speed improvement from the WD Elements.
Tanner Wolff (verified owner) –
Very small, silent drive, half the size of my WB 1TB drive yet much faster. I did get an accurate time, but it copied my laptops 500gb of data, music and photos in about 3 hours I believe.
Brooke Hermann (verified owner) –
This drive is really fast, 3 times faster than USB 3.0. Worked great .

With the small footprint of USB powered drive, it brings 5TB capacity with affordable price. This is just right for backups. It is 5400 drive, do not expect 7200 speed or SSD for raw video editing application.

This is a perfect external HD. The included software works great on my Windows 7 Pro computer with 4GB of RAM. It runs in the background and does not slow down the computer. One recommendation, if you have it auto-backup the entire user directory, do not have it backup the AppData folder. I would highly recommend unchecking this folder. Having it backup that folder CAN slow down your computer slightly, since files are created in that folder with nearly every program.

Installed on Windows computer Nov 7, hardware failure occurred Dec 14. Used as a backup drive. Heads clicking on disk surface. Will not use WesternDigital drives from now on.
