I am using with myMacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports). Plug and use. You can password protect. It comes with two cords, one thunderbolt and one USB 3.

I use this external drive to archive old photographs. It is very easy to use, and is very fast. As time has gone on, the form factor for these WD drives has continued to decrease. It is very light and small, and could even fit in a shirt pocket. It comes pre-formatted for Mac and can be used immediately upon plugging it into a usb port on your computer. After reading up on many alternatives, I concluded that this is the best value for the money and I haven’t been disappointed.

Need a separate adapter for newer MacBooks with usbc which is easy to get. I’m able to edit iMovie videos that are up to 30min long (1080p) with no issues.

Have been using 2, WD 4TB My Passport as additional backups but they needed to be retired/stored. Replaced with 2, 5TB WD My Passport they are working perfect.

it’s way too noisy for a portable hard drive

Great brand, super reliable and because it is smaller it is much more portable

Western Digital has been my go-to for years! They make it easy and affordable to get all my video clients organized and backed up!

I find it hard to believe this much memory has become so affordable. Reasonably strong build, reads and writes as advertised. WD always delivers. Used on an ROG Strix – Windows 10

I got only 25 – 35 Mbps speed…. took around 7.5 hrs to copy 600Gb(approx) data.

Over the years I’ve purchased a dozen Toshiba external USB 3.x HDDs from B&H, and whether the operating system was Windows 7 or Windows 10, the power saving features of the drives work well. If the drives are plugged into a USB 2.0 port, the LED indicator glows white; if plugged into a USB 3.x port, the LED indicator glows blue; if the drives are in use the LED indicator blinks, but when not in use, the LED goes off. It appears that HDDs in this current series of WD My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 (2019) never turn completely off. When in use the LED indicator blinks rapidly; when not in use the LED indicator blinks slowly. I’ve purchased five WD drives from B&H in this (2019) series: three 2TB drives and two 5TB drives. None of them turns completely off when plugged in but not in use. It may be the case that when plugged in but not in use the power drain is just as low for these WD drives as for the ones from Toshiba, but the LED indicators don’t give one that impression.

Purchased this drive to record church services to be viewed and uploaded at a later time. It’s storage size allows me to load more than 100 services without a threat of exhausting space.

Great price and delivery by B&H, but product not my favorite, I’m spoiled by quieter drives that spin at same speed and store comparable amounts. I am keeping it, but will only use for quarterly backups.

Great drive for backups on the goz

I ordered 2 of these for the 2 iMacs at work. From the time I opened the box it took me roughly 60 seconds to plug both in, tuck them behind the computers, make 2 mouse clicks, and that was it. Worked seamlessly, have not even noticed them since then, including their nice compact design. I believe they were 84.99 whn I snagged them so the price was good, too.

This hard drive has been fantastic. I’d been backing up with a much older drive and needed to back up a lot of high-res photos, graphic design files, and videos. I could not believe how quickly this drive copied them over. I’m thinking about getting a second one just to be a Time Machine backup with my Mac. If you buy this, check out B&H’s great online instructions for setting up the drive for your system.

Not sure what happened with my WD but I was transferring my work and suddenly it all stoped.. spend some money to recover it and glad I could save my work..

This little jewel is about the size of a large cell phone. All I had to do was plug it in to my iMac and it started downloading the files. Took about an hour and a half. It comes with the necessary adapter so I had nothing else to buy. For the price I don’t think you can beat it.
