Designed for a variety of computing applications like gaming, HD media playback, creative software, and more, the 1TB Blue 3D NAND SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from WD is verified for use with a wide range of desktop and laptop computers with a 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay for faster system boots, application responses, and transfer speeds. This SSD operates with a lower average active power draw of 60mW and features a storage capacity of up to 1TB, a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, sequential write speeds of up to 530 MB/s, sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s, random writes of up to 84,000 IOPS, and random reads of up to 95,000 IOPS. Also employed is 1.75 million hours MTTF (mean time to failure) and an endurance rating (lifetime writes) of 400 TBW (terabytes written).
With solid-state drive technology, you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures. Protection is provided by a limited 5-year warranty.

Some time ago I discovered how to make flash drives of my own with the tremendous capacities that I needed using cases made by Silverstone and these Western Digital solid-state drives. I have units ranging from 500 GB, up to 2 TB and each of those accomplish exactly what I want them to do, that is storing huge amounts of personal backup of files and photographs. I use it for the Atomos Ninja V to record 4K off my Sony a7iii. It is the cheapest 1TB and most compatible according to Atomos, and it’s true. There’s no restriction recording ProRes RAW & HQ. Also there’s no frame skipping notice on the screen with this drive. WD has always been reliable for me. Highly recommended!

I’ve replaced all my spinning hard drives with SSDs in the past year or so. The WD 2TB Blue replaced the last spinner in my old (2014) laptop, a Dell 5000 series, running Windows 10. I used an Aluratek drive duplicator to make an exact copy of the 1TB old drive (copying it bit for bit onto the SSD.) Once finished (about 3 hours), I installed the SSD into the laptop, and it booted immediately. I expanded the partition on the new SSD so the full 2TB could be utilized, giving me double the storage space. The new SSD breathes new life into the old laptop. It boots in seconds, and operates much faster. It also generates less heat, and it’s quieter since the fan runs less. If you’ve got a computer that runs ok but is just slow, upgrading to a new SSD is likely to help!
