Remember when you could calibrate equipment, space workpieces and collect exact measurements all with one tool. Maximize accuracy with the WEN Metric 1-2-3 Blocks. With one side measuring exactly 25 mm, 1 side at exactly 50 mm and a third side at exactly 75 mm, you’ll be able to ensure accuracy on every project. Made from heavy-duty hardened steel, the WEN Metric 1-2-3 Blocks have been machined to be perfectly square, with 23 holes (5 of which feature M10-1.5 threads) for bolting, drilling, hammering or whatever else you need them for. This pack comes as a set of 2, allowing the blocks to be easily combined in different configurations. Remember when you could have faith in your measurements. Remember WEN.

WEN 25 mm x 50 mm x 75 mm Steel-Hardened Metric Precision 123 Gauge Blocks (2-Pack) are a straight forward pair of precise machinist’s threaded metric blocks. They are well done. I checked the blocks with a digital caliper and dial indicator for accuracy and for overall flatness, all spot on. These are commonly called 1-2-3 blocks because of the three widths: 25 mm, 50 mm and 75 mm long, respectively. The set includes two blocks to use for measuring, they can be put together in length for measurements up to 150 mm at the largest length in increments of 25 mm’s. WEN also has a similar block set in inches (25 mm is less 1/64th inch.) The blocks are used by machinists to measure length and to do other tasks. The value of the set is the accuracy of the blocks in all its dimensions. Woodworkers also use them even though woodworking tolerance requirements are less demanding at times. The limitation, obviously, measurements in 25 mm increments is limiting, but you’d be surprised how often these lengths come in handy. I use a 1-2-3 block near my saws for the setup operation. On the table saw quickly set the fence for small cuts or check the blade to square after cutting a bevel. In the last example it is functioning as a small square. I’ve used it, too with the band saw and other tasks around the shop. It isn’t only for machinist use. This is a serviceable, reasonably priced set when expensive blocks aren’t needed.

SUMMARY: A DECENT ADDITION TO MY TOOL CHEST WITH CERTAIN CONSIDERATIONS.NOTE: This set of blocks currently has a price of less than $25USD. In the realm of machinist tools this is very inexpensive. I think these are a case of you get what you pay for.BACKGROUND: Gauge blocks (aka 1-2-3 blocks) are versatile in the DIY shop. The WEN model 10457 can be useful for general level work but have no specifications for accuracy.FIT AND FINISH: The blocks looked alright coming out of the package. There were some minor dings on every surface, but nothing was burred up or obviously deformed. I did chase the threads in the 10mm threaded holes that I used during evaluation because they were too tight. Minus one star for those faults.FEATURES: From the Home Depot page, with my comments as appropriate.• Calibrate equipment, space workpieces, and collect exact measurements all with one tool. Maximize accuracy with the WEN Metric 1-2-3 Blocks. o I have not micrometered or surface checked the blocks as I will not use them for exact marking or measuring. You would want to do that if you were working in the 0.0001 mm range, but I’d probably buy better blocks for precision.• Made from heavy-duty hardened steel, the WEN Metric 1-2-3 Blocks have been machined to be perfectly square, with 23 holes (5 of which feature M10-1.5 threads) for bolting, drilling, hammering or whatever else you need them for. This pack comes as a set of 2, allowing the blocks to be easily combined in different configurations. Remember when you could have faith in your measurements. Remember WEN.• Perfect for machinists, woodworkers, metalworkers and moreo Without published tolerances I would not use them in a high-accuracy job.• Each block measures 75 mm x 50 mm x 25 mm in sizeo Again, there are no published tolerances.• Features 5 threaded M10-1.5 holes and 18 unthreaded holeso The threaded holes are nice, but counter bored or recessed holes would be nice so you could flush any bolts.OPERATION: 1-2-3 blocks are handy for a several DIY uses:• Squaring a saw, joiner, or drill press• Setting 90-degree corners• Clamping as stops for repetitive cuts• Drawing or scribing short straight lines.• Parallel offsets for marking, cutting, or sawing• Holding fixtures• Drilling standoff supports• Knockout/disassembly supports.SUMMARY: I found these very handy to have for all the reasons stated above, but I would not consider them precision tools.PROS: Versatile, sturdyCONS: No published tolerances

what a great set of blocks for such a reasonable price. i will say right away that if you think these will replace your Brown & Sharp or Starrett blocks then you are wrong. however if you need only 95 percent the accuracy and something that cost 95 percent less then these are it. in machining or any precision work one has to weigh utmost accuracy with diminishing returns. these blocks for what i do represent that point. these blocks are as square, parallel, and precise as any of my current equipment can measure. but i also dont have a surface gauge and surface plates etcetera. all my calipers and squares show everything to be right on. for those who do have very nice and accurate Starrett level 123 blocks, sometimes you just need a pair that you arent afraid to let get beat up or a general purpose shop set. that way you can keep your nice blocks for special occasions. these are perfect in that regard. more than functionally accurate but cheap enough that if they get beat up you didn’t just throw away 700 dollars. regarding the oily coating some people take offense to. it is normal and a requirement to prevent rust. acetone will dissolve it readily if you are inclined to remove it outright just remember that prior to storage especially after handling you need to re-coat them in some sort of oil or rust preventative.

Since most of the machining I do is metric, I have wanted a set of metric 123 blocks. These fit the bill perfectly. I measured them with a micrometer and found they were within less than .0003″ (my micrometer measures in English units) in both the 25mm and 50mm dimension (I didn’t check the 75mm dimension). I did a surface plate measurement over the entire surface and found less than .0003 variation over the whole surface. The holes in the blocks alternate between through holes and M10 threaded holes, so that items could be mounted to the block (or the block attached to an item) if required. The surfaces cannot be rung together. All in all, I’ve impressed with the quality of these blocks, and they do exactly what is required.

WEN 25 MM X 50 MM X 75 MM STEEL-HARDENED METRIC PRECISION 123 GAUGE BLOCKSs arrive slightly oiled and they are wrapped in wax paper. They measure accurately on all sides. The threaded holes allow for precise stacking. The fasteners required for the threaded holes are M10-1.5. Fasteners are not included and must be purchased separately.I recommend this product.
