This is a perfectly workable small benchtop lathe. It works for small projects. Keep in mind you’ll still need an assortment of chucks, blades, and so on. I do wish there was some indication of RPM on the variable speed motor though, as rotation speed is correlated with blank diameter.

The motor is really weak. It struggles to spin a 4x4thatbwaa about 8 inches long. The lock secures the wood on the lathe but it slides when locked so you have to keep an eye on it. Other than that, it is really fun to do as long as you are working on small items. I am glad I have one now.

Everything was in the box, everything fit and everything worked. Tried a couple of quick and easy projects and I am very pleased.

The lathe was easy to set up. I have turned one pen, the lathe seems to run smooth and performs satisfactorily as described. A small part was defective, Fransicso at customer service was excellent in getting the replacement to me in two days.

It’s ok but tail stock does not tighten down other than that it makes a good starter lathe

Purchased the Wen 8×12 Var Speed Lathe and the WEN brand pen barrel adapter for my son this Holiday season, to make pens and small turnings. We set it up during the Holiday season and within 20 minutes or so had the pen barrels turned. All parts and machining appeared to be very fine quality. Within 3 hours from start to finish, he completed his first pen, while following his notes and a few U-tube videos. ( there were learnings to be made regarding the Pen construction, drilling, assembly and finishing process) but the lathe worked flawlessly using the 3 piece carbide set he also purchased separately. We did not have to bolt this lathe to the table for these small wood piecesBased on the quality of the lathe, and the the prior positive reviews (which motivated my initial purchase) I will consider other WEN products in the futureIt would have been nice to have seen the item in Home Depot prior to purchase, but with the quantity and quality of the reviews and feedback, I was comfortable ordering it. Thumbs up from my perspective and my sons!!

This is a dandy small lathe. Worked perfectly right out of the box. Vibration free, a tad under powered but overall 5 stars!

This is my first lathe. After looking at prices and reviews of various lathes i decided to purchase this lathe. The centers line up well and the motor easily spins denser woods. Its the only lathe i culd find in the cheaper price range that has variable speed. If you want to turn large items maybe pass on this one but if you only want to turn small bowls or tool handles this lathe is great

The tail is finicky, but for the price this thing has been great!

Easy set-up. I think it should also come with a smaller faceplate. It meets my expectations. I like the soft start feature.

This lathe was very easy to set up out of the box it took about 5 minutes. Don’t know how great it works yet because it was a gift to our Son-in-law and he still has to get a few more things to turn pens on it. I will follow it up when he does.

Would have been nice if they had supplied thread size for bolts necessary to secure lathe to table.
