So far it seems to be a nice wood turning leave, for a beginner like myself. I am learning techniques and safety with this inexpensive ways. The quality seems to be wonderful, and the price you cannot compare with any other machine. I do believe this is a very good quality product, and I would recommend it for any beginner and wood turning.

It is good enough for what I am doing right now. If I need to do something bigger I will have to see about getting a bigger one

My new Wen 8 in. x 12. Variable Speed Mini Benchtop Wood Lathe is perfect for a beginning wood turning enthusiast. I have never turned anything on a wood lathe before and thought this lathe would be a good lathe to start with. There’s not much to set up with the lathe. I cleared a spot on my existing work bench and drilled three holes according to the layout pattern in the manual. The legs on the lathe are tapped for M8–1.25 metric bolts. I bolted down the lathe using M8-1.25 bolts and large fender washers and plugged in the lathe. In a separate package I found a 2.3 in. face plate, a MT1 spindle drive spur, a M1 rotating center for the tailstock and 2 interchangeable tool rests (4-1/2 in. and 7 in.). Also provided is a flat wrench for attaching the face plate to the drive end of the lathe and a knockout rod to remove the MT1 tapered drive spur and the rotating center. The tool rest and tailstock lock handles have to be assembled and installed. This was easy to do. All of the sliding parts and clamps worked without any issues. I appreciate that in the manual a description and purpose of various turning tools was provided. I purchased separately the Wen turning tools which included a roughing gouge, round nose scraper, spindle gouge, parting tool, skew chisel and a bowl gouge. These turning tools seem adequate for a beginner. The variable speed drive worked well and there was not any vibration as I thought there might be. The soft start variable speed motor adjusts anywhere from 750 RPM to 3200 RPM. The 3.2-amp motor has plenty of power and never stalled while turning my practice piece of 4×4 inch fir. The only thing missing is the knowledge of lathe techniques and proper wood selection. Internet here I come. I’m very happy with the lathe and the 2-year warranty provides peace of mind for longevity. I’m just a rookie but this seems to be a high quality unit and would satisfy an experienced craftsman.

Seems like a good product, but missing several parts that you need to buy in addition to the Lathe to actually be able to use it. Ex. Bolts to anchor it to table and part that holds wood while spinning to be able to shape it.

Really pleased with this purchase…ready to get to work on making things.

Easy to assemble and easy to use. I turn woods, acrylics, and horn (Sometimes all in the same piece!) so the variable speed and the ease of switching speeds was really important to me. This works great!

It’s amazing how great it works granted it is for small projects but works great for making pens and doesn’t have a big footprint for a small shop

This is my first lathe. In fact this is one of my first benchtop tools and I’m quite excited about it. Even though I am a general contractor I hardly do any work at home, most of my tools are portable and I hardly ever do any crafts or anything like that, but this will be a new year and a new beginning to try things. Obviously I won’t be making any balusters or newel posts or baseball bats or anything large like that, but maybe small bowls, pens and other crafts will be within the capability of this little lathe. It’s definitely weighty, but not very large and only capable of working on objects 8×12. For an introductory tool this is a great starter piece, or for smaller stuff.
