This Wen 5 amp, 3.5” mini circular saw is a handy tool around my work shop. It’s designed for cutting softwood, tile, and aluminum. I’ve used it to cut furring strip, 1/2” and 3/4” thick plywood, and aluminum flashing. When I use the tool in the workshop, I attach the 17” dust extraction hose and then turn on the shop vac. It does a satisfactory job keeping the dust down. Since the tool is portable, many times I’ll just take it outside when there are only a few pieces to cut. The tool is built like a tank. It’s heavy and balanced. It has an ergonomic handle, although I don’t find it particularly comfortable to grip with my large hands. Regarding longevity, the only part that concerns me is the plastic depth-locking lever, but time will tell. The tool comes with a nice molded case that has storage for everything included — M5 hex wrench, detachable fence, 17” dust extraction hose, and 3 blades. The 24 teeth TCT soft wood-cutting blade (model BL8910W) comes installed on the tool, while the included 44 teeth HSS metal-cutting blade (model BL8910M) and diamond tile-cutting blade (model BL8910T) are in the blade holder of the case. I’m a bit disappointed the replacement blades are not available on the HD website or in my store at this time; however, the manual says replacement blades can be purchased from Wen. And note the blade requirements are very specific: 3.5” (89 mm), arbor size of 3/8” (10 mm), and blade thickness cannot exceed the included blades’ body or teeth thickness (body thickness/teeth thickness: 24 teeth TCT wood cutting blade- 1.2 mm/1.8 mm; 44 teeth HSS Metal Cutting Blade- 0.8mm/1.0 mm; Diamond Tile cutting blade- 2.0 mm/2.0 mm). I like that the cutting guide indicator is on the front and back of the shoe (aka, base plate), which makes it easy to line up plunge cuts. There’s also the laser when cutting forward. The laser guide on my tool was properly aligned out of the box, and can be turned on and off. It’s hard to see in bright daylight, but that’s typical. At the end of the day, I’m going to use a fence for a perfectly straight cut either way. Since the laser runs on batteries (two AG13 batteries included), I need to remember to turn it off or else… well, no laser next time. The tool has a nice 10’ chord and is double insulated. It has a two-pronged plug and there’s storage for the hex key on the tool-end of the chord (note: The hex key must be removed to fit the tool in the case). The tool’s body has a strange burnt smell, which emanates from the rubber insulated handle. Not sure what that’s about, but it doesn’t impact tool performance. If considering this tool, keep in mind the 3.5” blade has a depth of cut that cannot exceed 1 1/8” for softwood, 5/16” for tile, and 1/8” for aluminum. Also, keep in mind you cannot use this tool to make beveled edges, for example, when cutting corner moldings. Overall, I’m pleased with the quality and usefulness of this tool.

The saw is plunge cut, you have keep the pressure downward or you will get a shallow cut or no cut. This not like a regular circular saw were the cut can be fixed. Also the saw has one button on the side which establishes the plunge cut and the power on button, this cumbersome because both of those buttons have to pressed at the same time. This saw is for small jobs only! The plastic carrying case is JUNK. The hinge fell off the case and the handle broke ( first time used). If they made that saw in a regular circular saw it would be great!

I bought this as a Christmas gift, when opened there was a big grin on his face. Later he told me it had more uses than he thought. I finally got one right.

Came ready to use in a nice carry case. East to make any and all adjustments. Laser line bright, thin and not a distraction. Did not use the vac line during first cut, made a huge difference the next cut. Quick and easy blade change. A little heavy at first but you forget about it after minimal use.

The saw is small but plenty of power and cuts good and fast. My problem was I wished I could have seen it in person then I would have purchased something different. It’s not good for getting into tighter places especially in the front and rear. That’s what I really don’t like about buying on line, you don’t have a chance to go over the products to really seem them before purchase.

I have only used this on breaking down 2”x2” wood that was left when my living room was renovated to put in trash bags. I would normally grab my circular saw or reciprocating saw to do this job and have to pull the nails from the studs before cutting because if that blades hits a steel nail it is generally just bad news. But this small hand held circular saw it is easier to control and I can see my cuts a bit easier and it is a bit easier to control to avoid the nails and screws. I had about a half dozen of 2”x 2” x 8’ studs … 15 min later they weren’t 8’ tall anymore and were in bags. I had to make two cuts per section because it only goes 1-1/8” deep, but this did was a quick job of it anyway. Being basically a big kid … I went to the basement and got laminate flooring off cuts. Then I found some copper tubing. Then I found some thin steel studs. Then I found 1’ diameter PVC … used that for some self-watering pots for the wife. Let’s just say I spent the next few minutes cutting this stuff down to get ready for trash day. Laminate flooring … easily went through it. I even tried a length cut with and without the guide … always use the guide unless you want to look like the piece was cut by a drunk carpenter. The steel … it cut through easily enough but there was so much power though it that it shook the length of the stud so much I had to put a knee on it to keep it steady for the cut. The PVC … butter. It couldn’t be easier even though it was 1/8” think wall. I was surprised how easily and accurately it was able to cut through all that material. Trash day has never been so fun.The blades are easy to replace. They give you 3 each with its own list of materials to use them on with a hex wrench, attached to the power cable similar to a chuck wrench, to tighten and loosen the blades. The laser is basically a gimmick. Long cuts without using a guide or end guide, which comes with it, is not going to be straight. I can tell just from the amount of power being put through such a small light tool. It comes with a vacuum adapter … didn’t use it so I can’t really comment on it. It comes with a nice case made of a hard plastic. Overall, a good tool when you have tight spaces to work in or you don’t want to pull out the big boy tools for smaller jobs.
