Remember when your scroll saw could cut in 2 different directions. Take on the most intricate and artful cuts with the WEN 16 in. Variable Speed 2-Direction Scroll Saw. The 9/16 in. stroke saws through hard woods up to 2 in. T. Adjust the speed anywhere from 550 to 1600 strokes per minute with the simple turn of a knob. The cast iron base prevents vibration and walking during operation while the spacious 16 in. x 10 in. table bevels up to 45 for angled cut. The adjustable air pump clears saw dust from your work area to give you a clear line of vision as you cut. This combined with the 1-1/2 in. dust port keep your work area clean so you can focus on your woodworking. The saw also includes a hold-down foot clamp for securing your project in place along with a flexible work light that bends and adjusts to whatever position your heart desires. This unique blade holder accepts both pinned and pinless blades while also allowing users to change the direction of their cut to accommodate their particular workpiece. for pinned blades, simply pop the pins out of the front holder and turn the blade 90. Now, your cuts are no longer confined by the 16 in. throat of the scroll saw. On top of that, our removable pinless blade holder design tightly grips blades to prevent them from coming loose during operation. Onboard blade and holder storage creates simple organization solutions between jobs.

it worked very well for my project. However, the attached shop vac could not seem to get as much saw dust as I expected.

I guess for the money it does what it is supposed to. Not as smooth as I thought it would be.

Watch a few U-Tube videos and your ready to go. Easy to set up and use. Users say that you’ll break a few blades on the learning curve, I make way more relief holes on tight turns or long cuts and have not busted a blade yet. (Knock on wood!)

I am now on my 3rd Wen scroll saw… my 1st one was destroyed in wildfire, so when it was time for me to replace my tools & saws, I compared all my options & primarily due to the price point, I went with a very similar Wen model to the one I already had experience with. My 2nd one, the rear tension knob came completely out during normal use, after only having it a short time & was not repairable, so that one got returned to the store. I am now on #3 and so far, it is functioning well, I can only hope this one holds up better than the previous one. The good – I have tried other scroll saws, some higher end (belonging to a friend) & others of similar price range from a different mfr, that I was less pleased with. For the price range, this has been one of the better scroll saws as long as it continues to work properly. This is a case where you get what you pay for, if I could afford a higher end scroll saw, I would probably move on to a higher end, but for now, this has been the best bang for my buck & a relatively good beginner scroll saw. As with most scroll saws, there is still a lot of vibration & you will definitely want the saw mounted in some way… that can present a challenge depending on your working surface. I had my previous Wen saw mounted directly to a wood table that allowed for the application of screws. My current work table is metal & drilling holes for mounting is a challenge. I attempted using a rubber mat to keep it from sliding, however, that did not work. I came up with a solution of using heavy duty velcro type mounting tape & it is working great, no movement now. I like the light feature that doesn’t come with many other scroll saw’s, I just wish it was a bit brighter & I have still found need to add additional light if I do not have full daylight to work in. Blade changes take some practice & experience, but gets easier over time once you figure it out. If you’re new to a scroll saw, anticipate some frustration until you get the hang of it. The bad – other than my 2nd Wen saw coming apart on me after only using a few times, the “air pump” that is supposed to blow away dust as you saw, is a joke! It really doesn’t blow anything & was more in the way than anything, so I eventually just removed the rubber attachment that kept getting caught up in my wood pieces, as I continually have to just keep blowing wood dust away myself to see what I’m cutting. The dust port that is intended to connect to a shop vac is directly in front of you & although I have a shop vac, I don’t bother to connect it because it would be more in my way & cumbersome. You will get covered in sawdust but that is the nature of woodworking.

Read some negative reviews prior to purchase and found tgem to be unfounded, I found that the light and sawdust blower both worked good. I am well satisfied with this unit, and am liking it more and more, as I learn.

I was pleased with the quality and the price of the WEN scroll saw. I have used it to make a wooden airplane for my grandson and it performed as expected. I especially liked the LED light. I would recommend this product and I am considering other WEN products.

I read many many reviews prior to purchasing this. I am not disappointed at all with the saw. Thanks to the reviews I was aware of its shortcomings and have adapted to them. I love the flexibility of having the flexibility of having two direction settings.
