The Compound Cross Slide Benchtop Drill Press Vise, for the price is a well constructed vise that helps me turn my drill pressinto a small hobby milling machine. The assembly was extremely easy and with a little ‘tweeking’ of the slide guides and lightlubricant, the vise became to exact tool I needed to complete my task. I had to do a little improvising on the base mounting, but that was my preference. Good vise that I would recommend without hesitation.

Excellent Drill Press Vise. Very sturdy, heavy and very well made of cast iron. A lot of attention paid to details.Operates smoothly. I received mine in good condition. The gripping portion (Jaw) is smooth as glass. The hand wheels operate smoothly and move the jaw accurately to the specified tolerances. A pleasure to work with. At only 5-1/2 in. high no problem fitting under my drill press. The jaw opens to 3-1/4 in. and the hand wheels move the jaw smoothly left & right and front to back. There are 5 x 1/2 in. mounting brackets built-in. A great piece of machinery

This is a nice product for the price and worked well for what I needed to do. As others have written in their reviews, you need to clean and lubricate the ways as well as adjust the tension on the ways in order to make this operate smoothly. Once cleaned, lubricated and adjusted it will function effectively. I also found it mounts best if you only try to use two of the four mounting locations, as all four did not line up on my drill press mount locations. With the proper bolts, two location were more than adequate to secure to my drill press table.

This is a very nice cross slide vise for the price. It is not too big as to take up a lot of room when not in use which is s plus. I mounted this to my 15 inch drill press, thinking I could use it to help accurately lay out holes when drilling, which it will do. I decided to try using it to turn my press into a milling machine. whit the right milling cutter i was able to put a 90 degree edge on some angle i had cut with a hack saw, as well as drill slotted holes in the same angle iron. you need to take your time but the vise worked beautifully. for the price you will not go wrong

Looks solid.

This xy vise needs quite a bit of fine tuning. The cranks are hard to turn because the block that moves the base pivot of the part you are moving did not have the shoulders drilled out completely and a lump of metal rubs against the threads on the parts you are turning making it bind.

Pretty happy with this vise, you need to do some adjusting, and lubrication to get smooth movement, but for the price it’s accurate enough for me. There’s no slop once you get it adjusted and the markings on the handles are actually pretty accurate.

Good Compound Vise and a great value.First impression of this vise is very good, considering the price it’s a great value for a home shop or anyplace that needs a good compound vise that’s fairly precise. The vise is very well built and has wonderful castings that for its size are very heavy duty. Compared to other vises in this call that are on the market this is truly remarkable. When I first opened the box I found the vise neatly packed in foam blocks and a heavy plastic bag. The vise is coated with a heavy coat of protectant oil that should be removed. The hand cranks are not attached and are in there own compartment in the foam packing blocks with nuts and washers.First order of business with any new quality machine vise is to remove the protectant oil. I used a bath of non-flammable solvent for washing auto parts (never use anything that’s flammable as a wash). Once this is done and everything is dried off, I removed the ways adjusting blocks, these are found under the 3 small allen head screws (two way blocks in the vise). The ways provided had a small bend in them (see photos) that needed to be flattened. Once this is done I used a medium fine whetstone to polish and remove the mill scale that came on them. Then oiled the ways and way blocks with a good machine oil and reinserted them and adjusted the allen heads to get a smooth wiggle free travel on the vices ways. You may also want to smooth down some of the rough and sharp edges with a file. Once the cleaning and adjusting was done I permanently installed the vises hand cranks and adjusted them for almost zero play by staking them in place with a small punch mark. Overall this is a great little vise that once cleaned, deburred and adjusted can do almost anything a home shop could ask for and the price is a great bargain and should last for a lifetime.

It wants to drift it has no way to lock your settings

Well, it’s a vise. Mine was so tight it wouldn’t move. Adjusted the set bolts, tighten the lock nuts, a little WD40, happy camper now.

This vise was exactly what I was looking for, and it works just like it is supposed to. And at a great price.

A simple, easy way to add convenience and accuracy to any drill press. The Wen Compound Cross Slide drill press vise does exactly that. No more re-aligning and re-clamping the workpiece when you you have to drill a series of holes – mount the piece in the vise and move it from one position to the next by just turning a crank handle. No, it will not convert your drill press into a “knee mill” – but it will make drilling multiple holes a lot easier.

I was impressed with the quality of this!! It was just a little too small of jaws for my needs. Put some good lube on the threads, and it felt like an adult etch-a-sketch.

It does what I need it to do but there is slack when turning the knobs that i would prefer was not there but overall it’s been a good vice

Worked just as described

I think it is a good vise, but it is really too big for my 10 inch Wen drill press. I returned it. Just left too little working room on that drill.

Worked well right out of the box, and at a better price than the “discount store “. No complaints at all.
